I can't achieve any stable overclocks on my Athlon II x3 450

Thread Starter
HI everybody I am trying to overclock my 450 but not matter how small I just cant seem to get it stable. It will always boot to Windows but will crash during any stress tests. All my specs are in my signature.

My processor has an aftermarket HSF and i added heatsinks to my VRM. How far do you think the voltage would be safe to go on this 4+1 Mobo?

I have a feeling it may just be a problem with this bargain bin motherboard I have as it has other problems once in awhile. For example every couple of months Ill go to turn it on, the fans will start to go for about half a second and then it will short out. I can unplug it and then reconnect it but still no power. I have to open her up and re secure all the connections to the motherboard. This never happens while its running though.

Any help with this would be great. I am trying to achieve at least 3.6 but would like to go higher. However I have been having problems getting anything above the stock 3.2 to stay stable.

Thanks.
If you need more info just ask.

I have tested the RAM with memtest and it never showed any errors. The program that is crashing the CPU is LinX. The motherboard is a Gigabyte Ga-MA 770t UD3

I don't think it's your motherboard because mine has 3+1 power phase and my unlocked athlon x3 is stable at 3.65 ghz

I have tried bumping up the Vcore by .0025 or .025 whatever my smallest increment was. I'm just wondering how high I can take it semi safely. Being that it's only a 4+1.

Do I need to raise the voltage on the NB or RAM as well when i up the core power?

The fourth core is not unlocked.

Well I got home determined to make this work yesterday and I managed to get some settings to run LinX 100 times at max memory without any errors or crashes at 3.6GhZ. Usually it would crash before even 1 test completed. So i'm feeling pretty good.
