Just saying. tongue.gif
Although this case honestly should be 110% doable in his budget.
Give me a few minutes here to catch up with what I'm doing...and I'll see if I can take a crack at this $800 build myself. Looks like you guys are having fun with it. smile.gif

looking forward to it, after glancing over all the other builds i think mine offers the best performance, but i dont have any room for the psu messing up lol

edit: ofc im bias.

./Cy4n1d3\.

The flash memory side of it shouldnt work on a test like this since the HDD uses it to cache often used files. I personally dont know how worth it this drive was over the same one without the small SSD storage. I used it in my laptop a while and think the only speed increase was because i went from 5400rpm to 7200rpm.

No reason to NOT use a laptop hard drive honestly. If it saves him $100 on a hard drive (price difference), then why not?

I wouldnt rule out a good 7200rpm 2.5" drive, I was thinking about using my momentux xt 2.5" in my desktop since I removed the HDD bays for radiator space, but luckily I was able to put both my hard drives in the 5.25" drive area thumb.gif

I'm $22 over budget here, but hopefully that can be used. smile.gif

Asus P8P67 Motherboard - $70.99 (note, same board as the Pro, just no crossfire / SLI)
Core i5 2500k - $229.99 (can save $50 if you have a MC or Fry's nearby, they're $180 there)
LG Sata DVDRW - $15.99
NZXT Source 210 - $39.99
Seagate 500GB 7200RPM drive - $74.99 after promo (if you have a drive you can reuse, then ignore this)
MSI 6950 2GB Twin Frozr - $289.99
Antec Earthwatts 430 Green - $39.99
2 of these 4GB Samsung sticks - $23.99 each ($47.98 total)

With any of the money saved, I'd go for a good CPU cooler first, and a 64GB Crucial M4 SSD next.

Total comes to $822 and some change. You could get it closer by going with cheaper RAM, but those Samsung sticks are amazing.

Microcenter usually has a deal for the 2500k and the P8P67 board for only $50 extra (so $230 for the board and CPU). If that's the case...then I've got a LOT of changes to make to my build above. tongue.gif It's possible we could squeeze an HD7950 in there. smile.gif

Does he happen to have a decent hard drive he can re use? Sorry if I missed that.

Definitely like your build, but he has absolutely no storage space. So hopefully he's got a hard drive he can reuse. I wouldn't suggest buying a new storage drive right now, not with these prices. If he absolutely HAS to....go for the cheapest one possible that'll have the space he needs.

I'm not a fan of the case you picked...but it does work. I'd rather see the Source 210 get more love. smile.gif It's also $30 cheaper.

Also, the Crucial M4 is only $88 on newegg right now. wink.gif If he's going to get SSD, might as well spend the extra few dollars for that one.

If there are any cheaper but good quality boards at MC when you combo them with the CPU, then that could possibly save some more money, and allow a 7950, if we remove the SSD from it (assuming he's got a hard drive he can reuse). That would be what I would recommend if he can do it. A hard drive / SSD won't do anything for gaming...but getting that 7950 will. wink.gif

how is the source's build quality? ive never messed witht hat case, i have the 300 illusion, thats why i recommended it. i forgot to check neweggs price on the m4, yeah he should def do that even with my build as he has money left over in it, around 15 dollars or so to the 800 budget(excluding tax from microcenter) i am going to rework my build with the source and see what i can finaggle, this is quiet fun and slightly challenging.

I have a Source 210 and a Beta Evo (any of the NZXT Classics are going to be the same). Honestly...the fact that I've had my Beta Evo for 2 years now, that REALLY says something about the build quality. wink.gif Normally I tear through cases within probably a month or two, to the point all the screws are stripped, and its all scratched. My Beta Evo is still just as pretty as ever, just a little bit bent on the side panel (my 2 year old's fault there).

The Source 210 is just as good if not better honestly. I love these cases on a budget.

2500k microcenter $180
asus p8z68-v lx microcenter $70

that is all i would buy from microcenter!

gskill sniper 8 gigs newegg presidents day sale, has it at 40 dollars!
lg dvd burner newegg 15.99
cm 212 evo newegg 35
nzxt source 210 steel newegg 49.99
antec earthwatts green 430 newegg 39.99
64 gb m4 newegg 79.99

leaves you with 289.05 for video cards, so you still should go with the below vid card choices:

pick one i used the 560 ti for budgeting purpose as it was more expensive
xfx 6950 2gb newegg 254.99 after mir
msi 560 ti 448 twin frozr 3 oc newegg 265 after mir

so after the 560 ti 448 you have 24.05 left to cover taxes at microcenter. this is ofcourse if you have a hard drive external or something to use for storage.
