[Released] Quoting BBCE smilies with the RTE removes the smilie. - Page 2

Thread Starter

Ok ENT, as you can see, the smilie didn't quote. So, could you (or indeed, anyone else watching this thread), check something? Just to make sure, because I'm still getting this, all the time.

1) Switch to the RT editor.

2) Quote post #4, where you post the smilie and "Smiley in BBCODE".

3) Without posting, can you switch to the HTML editor (press the "Source" button in the top left). Then, can you paste what you get as the <img> tag for the smilie? I get:

<img class="bbcode_smiley" height="1" src="http://files.overclock.net/images/smilies/frown.gif" width="1" />

Since posting that code alone in the HTML editor alone doesn't even give the smilie, I'm surprised that you were able to quote the smilie successfully.

EDIT FOR HUDDLER: I have found a solution, if not the cause. :P

If you can remove the height="1" and width="1" parameters, the RTE can quote BBC smilies without a problem. I believe it's just the order of the parameters which are jumbled up (also the primary issue in this bug).

Ok, yeah, here's the smilie when you quote it:

<img class="bbcode_smiley" height="" src="http://files.overclock.net/images/smilies/smile.gif" width="" /> Smiley in BBCODE</div>

You'll notice the height and width parameters are blank, unlike my ones, which are set to one. Which makes me think I was on the right track with my post above, saying if those two parameters were removed when quoting BBCE smilies using the RTE, the issue would be solved. :)

Erm, quoting a BBE post with RTE seems to show the smiley okay - I'm probably missing a step here.  Can someone put together exact repro steps?

There's one step. I quote the smilie:

It's just not quoting for me. Again, while I don't know why it happens, I know how; the height and width parameters (when you check the post in the HTML editor) are blank for most people. So when you quote it, or when ENT above quoted it, you got:

<img class="bbcode_smiley" height="" src="http://files.overclock.net/images/smilies/smile.gif" width="" />

However, when I quote it, I get:

<img class="bbcode_smiley" height="1" src="http://files.overclock.net/images/smilies/smile.gif" width="1" />

Changing those parameters from blank to 1 breaks the tag and the smilie reverts to a white dot instead.

Ah I see, looks like it happens when I do this in IE9 but not in Chrome.  My bad, missed that.

Okay, ticketed as #8524.  I added a note to see if the possible GDoc issue with the jumbled URL might be related as well; it would be helpful if anyone can verify that this happens outside of IE9.
