Help with BSOD

Thread Starter
I have been out of the scene for quite a while. I tried to update my ATI drivers for my two 4850s and went to ATI website and did the auto detect. I installed the drivers but after install I keep getting a BSOD within two minutes of restarting. I am able to get everything working again with a system restore but my drivers are two years old and I can't seem to open Catalyst without it crashing the computer. Help please!

Also... I have convinced my wife that the video cards are bad. I have not played computer games in a few years but really want to start playing SW. I need some advice on updating my video cards. I don't want to spend too much money but any suggestions for $300 or less.. either a two card solution or one card with the ability to Crossfire or SLI later would be cool. I will also post this in the general section as I want the NVIDIA guys to weigh in too.

With a 300$ budget, I'd say go with the GTX 560 Ti 448 Cores thumb.gif

At just over 300$ (but with significantly more horsepower), you've got the HD 6870's in CrossFire.

I got the second to latest driver to install. The new Catalyst Control Center looks completely different than I am used to. How can I tell if Crossfire is actually enabled?

But ATI still doesn't have Physix, right? I do have an 8800GT sitting around here. Could I use that to enable Physix?

Do not use Auto Update.

Download and install the package manually.

Yes, you can but 8800GT is too slow and will slow down the main card.

You can even have AMD card as main rendering and nVidia as dedicated PhysX.

Here's how to do it: post #1124
