[TF] Music Industry Mulls Suing Google Over “Pirate” Search Results - Page 2

It would be a cold day in hell before a law passed stating what people could get search results for, that would be like libraries not being able to carry books about piracy. It will never happen, not in this country at least.

This won't end well. For anybody.

Who cares which side wins at this point.

Imagine the government as a skinny 12-year old with a Nerf gun. Now imagine piracy as a colossus cargo plane. No matter how many darts you stick, the results will be the same. The only way to stop piracy in it's tracks is to delete the internet tongue.gif And if they successfully pull that off, I'd gladly revoke my citizenship and live on a raft suspended by crafting foam in the middle of the ocean. Because I would mean more as a human out there.

In other words, IFPI accuses Google of antitrust practices by failing to censor its search results in favor of the music industry. Strong words, and quite unprecedented if a lawsuit does indeed get filed.

A “Voluntary Code of Practice” suggested by the entertainment industries last month revealed that the IFPI and RIAA want all search engines to de-list popular file-sharing sites such as The Pirate Bay, and give higher ranking to ‘legal’ alternatives.

Today we learned that if Google doesn’t give in to these demands, an unprecedented lawsuit may follow.

I am in no way advertising or advocating piracy but this would be an epic and unprecedented lawsuit that would have massive ramifications. They are trying to censor the internet in an attempt to prevent piracy much like other countries do.

Censorship isn't wrong. It depends on what content is being censored.

Do they honestly think they can take on Google? Do they know what the internet even is and how powerful Google is? I think most of the music industry are a bunch of hermits. Well it will be an entertaining show /popcorn.
