ivy bridge cpu with what mobo?

Thread Starter
Im thinking of selling off my amd 1055t system and upgrading to ivy bridge in two months. What motherboards will be compatible with ivy bridge that will take full advantage of all the features offered by ivy bridge. Are the current X79 boards ok. Im thinking of asus formula 5 or extreame mobos.

I know i dont need all those features but i want them just because biggrin.gif

I plan to bring my seasonic 1000w platinum, intel 80g ssd in raid 0, wd green 1tb, xfi card, killer 2100 card, matrix P 580gtx, H100 and other basic stuff like ram fan, fan controler, all my cables, 3d vision. Im assuming ill see a nice improvement in day to day and gaming performance....i hope anyways.

Thanks and any input would be great also.

PS. quad channel ram (not sure of brand) but 16gigs 2000+ matched.

x79 might be compatable with with ivy bridge-E but not Ivy bridge.. any decent p67 or z68 borad will surfice with a BIOS flash, if you get a GEN3 mobo its pretty much IB ready..
i would wait and see what the z77 Ivy boards are like plus there are a few other chipsets too i cant recall of hand, but the z77 is the flagship thumb.gif

PS: z77 mobos to take full advantage, and IB will still only support dual channel RAM but native 1600MHz smile.gif

Ivy Bridge goes best with a Z77 motherboard, or else you can't use all the features to their fullest extent, and some features aren't available on Z68;.

GIGABYTE Z77 should be very solid, no more of their AWARD BIOS, they finally went to AMI. The issue was that they bought the entire award bios team a year before INtel changed over to only using AMI bios, so uefi is only in AMI. So changing UEFI BIOS codes intel released for SB to AWARD was a task, anyways no more of those issues now as they are using the AMI UEFI code now, just like everyone else.
