Noobster with startup issues...need some help! - Page 2

Glad that I could help you smile.gif I never listen to the "tips" sales people give as I usually end up correcting them and in the end I walk away pissed because of their ignorance.

What kind of problem do you have with the ram? Doesn't it show up properly, wont boot or what?

I don't think your chip is damaged from heat, but just out of curiosity how many times did you try to boot without the heatsink on?

Hi Blizlake,

Maybe 3 or 4 trys last night, and about 5 or 6 this am before hsf install. Each time letting it cool enough to feel cold to the touch.

The "mem-ok" does not get to acceptance, as the mem led stays on once through all settings it goes through.
Just a point....mobo box states "any ram is ok with mem ok"
This may be slightly misleading....ok more than slightly!
The post must go through each item before continuing on, so I have yet to get past the ram......grrrrrr

Has not completed a single boot as of yet.
Since installing hsf, tried each stick individually, then in opposing slots, then in a1/b1, instead of a2/b2 as recommended...just in case, and still not past ram in the post.

Almost at the point where i am ready to go back and purchase qvl ram to get up and running, then update to newer bios, and retry the crucial ram i have. if it works...i will return the qvl to the point of purchase with a very bad attitude for thier ignorance.

In a thread i read a week or two ago, someone had mentioned how different ram worked after the bios update. (ver 0301 to ver 0402)

Just to make sure, the correct slots are 2nd and 4th from left for 2 sticks of ram tongue.gif
Also, I say just forget the memok button and see if it'll boot properly with the ram. Check that bios shows their specs properly and install OS, then install and run memtest.

Are you sure the ram is pushed all the way into the sockets?
if not then the ram led will flash, but mem ok wont do anything.

Yes, double klick each time, 1 from bottom as ram sets in bottom, 1 from top as lock closes.
Ram fully inserted each time, with power off and disconnected.

yuppers a2/b2 (2&4) I have even tried to go into a1/b1 (1&3) just in case, as well single sticks in each slot (1 to 4) has now been tried as well.

Also, I say just forget the memok button and see if it'll boot properly with the ram. Check that bios shows their specs properly and install OS, then install and run memtest.
As per manual.....system has to go through each item in post, prior to initial boot. so..no boot as of yet..so not into bios or o/s.
This is to assist with issues. skull.gif (or maybe to cause more grief? lol)

I am headed over to my buds, where we built almost identical system a couple weeks ago, and I am taking the ram to try in his...he has same ram, and it worked on 2nd run through
"mem-ok".
his bios is newer -(ver 0402)......his cpu i7 2600k, mobo almost identical..p8z68 deluxe gen 3...same ram......
I will let you know if it worked in his in a couple hours if he is willing to let me try mine.

Hey All,
Well to those who are following this thread, I just got back from my buds house. Swapped his 2 sticks for mine, turned his on and - system went on as if nothing changed. thumb.gif
So he traded me his 2 sticks ram for mine to bring home and try....same as before. my board doesnt go past ram on initial post. mad.gif

Therefore I believe the ram to be good. He even offered to buy mine if indeed I couldnt use it in this build. at a discounted price as used .....he was ribbing me.buttkick.gif

Yes standoffs were used on mobo install - I helped him build his system (almost identical in parts list) couple weeks ago so I just repeated all the same steps on mine...all same precautions...stat strap even!
I am at the point where I RMA mobo or replace ram with QVL ram.

Any other suggestions from the collective group of experience?grouphug.gif

Hey Blizlake,

I would like to thank you for your inputs, and let you know the outcome of the issues you helped me work through. thumb.gif
After trying 3 different sets ram, I disassembled the system, took board back and the retailer tested the mobo, and has ordered a replacement, to be here in 3 to 4 days. After all is said and done, the board had issues of its own, and is being replaced no problems! biggrin.gif
I am grateful to all who had positive inputs and reinforcing comments, most of all Blizlake cheers.gif who took the time to do a little research and give me the push in the right direction. poke.gif
Kudos to you, and thanks to the forum in general for participating!
The build will be back on track in a few days, and the newest member of the family will be up n running....ready to start oc'ing ( with a few questions for the abundantley knowledgeful members of this forum ) bike.gif

Regards
Noobster - much more relaxed!

Cheers for your kind words, but it's no biggie. I've had problems peeps over here have helped me to solve, so now I'm just paying back by helping others (plus I've got nothing better to do tongue.gif).

Glad to hear that the problem got solved, hopefully the new board works as it should thumb.gif
