7900GTO vs x1900XT

Thread Starter
Which card is better? The 7900GTO has 512MB memory, the x1900XT has 256MB for around the same price. However, the 7900GTO is specified OpenGL 1.5. What's that all about?

All in all, which card would you choose?

x1900xt - It should be alot faster than the 79GTO. You gotta remember though that the x1900xt runs hotter, louder and eats the power like no tomorrow. Other than that it should be fine.

The 7900GTO is a GTX with lower clocks, but could probably be overclocked to the same speeds. Altough the X1900XT can do AA and HDR at the same time, where as the 7900 dont seem to be able to.

If you prefer more FPS/better performance then get the 7900GTO
If you want better image quality with AA and HDR then get the X1900XT

Its really a personal preference

Just remeber he said 256 X1900 not the 512 version

I'd get the X1900XT. It has 48 pixel shaders on 16 pipelines (the usual 3:1 ratio for the X1900 series), while the nVidia has 24 shaders on 24 pipelines. Also, ATI generally has better image quality.

The only advantage I see from the 7900GTO is the extra memory.

x1900XT hands down. Better shaders, better architecture, all and all just a better card. An x1900XT outruns even the fastest nVidia cards, and the GTO is definitely not the fastest. Memory size doesn't matter nearly as much as the architecture, memory bus, pipelines, pixel shaders, etc. So the x1900XT would run circles around about anything. If you can bear to wait, though, I would say get a 7900GS for $200 and save the rest for DX10. You'll get a year of sweet gaming out of that card.

I would go for the X1900XT and fold on it, but that's just me.

Well if you play OpenGL games which Nvidia cards are specified for then you get a good performance boost by going Nvidia. If you play DX games then you should go ATI for the HDR and AA.

Anyone know if UT07 will be an OpenGL game?
Well UT 07 will be DX 10 most likely. I guess It'll support DX9 also, but I'd wait until true DX10 cards are out.
