nice runiing VMs was easier than i thought smile.gif, i am trying to run a Connection Server and VMWare View (VDI) configure so my friend/s can run some thin apps off my servers over the net as since i'm using VDI over my LAN Lab i though i would make an repository of thin apps that is just some small free apps like Acrobat reader, foxit and winamp so they would be small enough for my internet connection to handle as well as not violating licensing so i can test VDI and PCoIP across the WAN and try WAN optimization (WAN op im not really set up for i think) smile.gif

Plus so much writing up i still have do on this thread as my aim is home users - SMBs and enterprise solutions to help me gain certifications

stubass any idea how i'd test pfsense in ESXI? or do you think i would need to test it on a physical server? need to test stuff for having 4+ WAN's in the office and going pfsense route is better than trying to find a 4+ WAN router (1 Conn for servers, 2 for internet (load balanced) then 1 for VOIP).

Cant work out how i'd manage to test it in pfsense as it'd just see ethernet connections i dont think i'd be able to tell it what is WAN what is LAN? or am i mistaken smile.gif

You would set up your seperate networks/nics in vmware, then when setting up your PFsense vm you add whatever nics you need to the vm and then you will tell it which one is WAN, LAN, etc. during install. Hope that makes sense.

I just bought a Rackable server and installed ESXi and WHS 2011. Everything works. My box has a Roamer board and I was wondering if any of you tried to work with Roamer?
I want to be able to easily start and stop Rackable from a client. Anyone have any suggestions?

So, I hate to crack open an old thread, but I have a quick question. I have a nearly identical server, and when it runs, it's fantastic. However, it likes to lock up on me for no reason. It's quite frustrating. The BIOS doesn't even respond (hitting numlock on the keyboard doesn't change the numlock light) The server just doesn't respond to anything. I can tell the VMs arent running, because I have a pfSense VM running to route the traffic for my network.

Do you have any advice for a poor college student?
I've heard talk of a BIOS upgrade which alleviates issues with Windows Server 2k8.

If your BIOS is freezing up, you likely have a hardware issue...aka, something is dying. What OS you have loaded does not matter when in the BIOS. If there is a new version of the BIOS available, however, that is the best place to start.
