Need help with 2500K overclock.

Thread Starter
I am thoroughly confused trying to overclock my CPU. I am only trying to get 4.2GHz

I have disabled all the c3,c6 c1eist and all the other things. I have disabled PLL overvoltage as I was told it was for higher overclocks. Turbo boost is off, Ram is set to the XMP profile.

Now the confusing part: I can boot in and past 20 passes of intel burntest at 1.3 volts, but fail prime blend test within 5 minutes. Then I try 1.4v (have tried other voltages in between) and I still fail prime blendtest, I don't often blue screen but I will get one worker failing.

No matter what I do I cant get it to be stable through prime blendtest. I haven't really played with LLC much as I don't know what it is, but I tried level 4 and level 7 and it just made the voltages act funny.

Do I need to adjust any of the other voltages? As I really don't know what they do.. :/

Even the Gigabyte turbo overclocks are unstable... I think it might be a ram problem? I ran windows memory test and it came back clean.

Help?

LLC controls VOltage droop. Oldskool days when your CPU is under load, voltage will drop several significant millivolts and cause instabillity. Set your LLC to High or one stop below your max settings. the highest LLC settings OVERVOLTS your cpu under load, adding a few millivolts under load.

Enable PLL overvolting.

Enable or set cstates to auto, Enable turbo and set your turbo multiplier to desired clock.
(in this case x42).

Only thing you should change is the Vcore, all other voltages should be auto (make sure XMP voltages are correct too)

lmk if you try this.

Also please read the 2500k Overclocking guide.

What voltage should I try it at?

Edit: I have read a few of the guides and was following them, I was still unable to get it stable.

I tried the LLC at level 7 of 10, and it was upping the voltage up to 0.09 volts. That seems too high?

And of the 5 blue screens I've had all but 1 of them have been 124. Does that mean I should be adjusting the QPI or VTT? As increasing vcore didn't help.

That's the guide I was using. I followed it almost to the letter.

I must just be useless.

what type of RAM are you using and how many sticks ?

I have the same motherboard with you, so maybe I can help thumb.gif

Load optimized defaults, set CPU voltage to normal, raise DVID (right below CPU voltage) to +0.50 and set all 4 turbo multipliers to 42 (and higher later). Done.
Run stability tests.

''I have disabled all the c3,c6 c1eist and all the other things''
By loading optimized defaults, these will be enabled. Personally I leave them on.

These are what I bought: http://www.computerlounge.co.nz/components/componentview.asp?partid=14138

When I use XMP they are set to 8-8-8-24.
