Finaly a stabile overclock @ AMD Phenom II X4 965. But....

Well I finaly achieved an good stabile clock, that doesn't bypass 58C on prime95 heat test 24/7.

Watercooled rig, 360mm HW labs radiators-lite.

Room temperature during testing was 26-30 Celcius.

It drains around 200 watt now ^_^

BUT!...

I have never played around with more then 1.49 voltage on this spesific CPU, is it a bit high?
I am wondering if it will melt the circuits on my MB....:|

Please post some, and I would gladly give +rep if its helping me in any way!smile.gif

my Goal is 4.5 @4 cores with this ooold CPU, so any help would be appriciated, thanks! <3

1.548 v for 4.2ghz seems to be a bit high, IMO.

Check this out here:
http://www.overclock.net/t/499526/official-phenom-ii-x4-9x5-oc-club

Club for the same CPU you have, you could see what vcores other get at that clock.
Since you are water cooling, you could push the CPU to 4.5, BUT the MAX temp for amd deneb is 62C, so if you up the clocks and vcores a bit more, and prime test it, it might damage CPU. So I would recommend you get much better cooling, even thought the cm 922 is awesome.

Try to drop the vcore down step by step, and test with prime95, until you get better temps, yet stay stable.

ALSO!!! Don't OC the HTlink, some say it lowers performance.

SO while it is running prime95, open up your case and touch the NB and the heatsink of the VRMs, it should be hot, but not too hot!

I believe the NB is below the CPU, next to the first PCI 16x, and the VRM heatsink is on the left of the CPU, by the IO connectors.

Well I hope this helped, so just drop vcore a bit, check with the club, very useful, and keep us posted. biggrin.gif

First of all, that motherboard should be great for trying to overclock; The two parts of the motherboard that you need to overclock and overvolt, the VRMs and the mosfets, are both under a heatsink on this motherboard so you are in good shape there. In other news, youre VERY close to two limits of overclocking with your processor. The accepted max constant voltage for the Phenom IIs is 1.55, and the max temps are 62C. Seeing as if your ambient temps went up, you may damage your CPU I would say you need to lower some things. How did you determine those settings? What was the max frequency you could hit before you had to raise the voltage? Also, you say that you havent played with more than 1.49 volts, but then the screenshot shows almost 1.55 volts? Let us know and we can help you out more! thumb.gif

the volts on 1.49 is considered in the OK range, however I see 1.548 on the screenshots.

Have you entered the volts manually? and was the screen shot of the CPU was during a 100% Load?

That voltage is way too high and you really don't need to bump up the bus speed that high. I would only mess with the multiplier and the voltage. it really all depends on the kind of cpu cooling that you are using. I can get 4.3 stable at 1.43 volts but my high on full load is 54®C, I don't like my cpu to get that hot @ 4.2 @1.4125 it stays very low idol @34®C 36®C and peek at 48®C to 50®C.
my cpu is water cooled with the EK HF supreme all nickel, black ice 240 rad, mcp 655 pump and xspc Reservoir and cooled by feser fans.
I pretty much stay with 4.2 24/7 I will have to double check how I got a stable 4.3 again it has been a while. very good cpu no problems at all. I am pretty sure that is correct though.
I am in the process of upgrading the motherboard and graphics card soon to the GTX 680 and the Sabertooth 990 FX Motherboard going to stay with the 965 for a while and even thinking of getting a second one being they are so cheap now.
