holy crap i just read this whole thread. What else is there... is it only me or does it seem that when you buy computers from companys or you build the exact same thing yours always seems faster?? Tell him to trust you for once and if you fail (besides RMAing stuff) then he can "un"trust you lol

edit: also tell him that its sad that he cant trust you and make it seem bad so he feels bad :-)

Just composed a Dell for $1,114 (note: you will have to add sales tax to it, so the total price will be the same). Here are the specs, based on the XPS410:

CPU: Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E6300 (1.86GHz, 1066 FSB)
RAM: 2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz - 2 DIMMs
HDD: 250GB Serial ATA 3Gb/s Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst Cache
DVD: Single Drive: 16X CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW)
VIDEO: 256MB nVidia GeForce 7900 GS edit
SOUND: Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio

WARRANTY AND SERVICE 1Yr Ltd Warranty and At-Home Service

OPERATING SYSTEM Genuine Windows® XP Media Center 2005 Edition with re-installation CD

No Monitor, no keyboard, no mouse... jus the basic rig.

Pros of the Dell: eeehh.... it has an OS??
Cons of the Dell: slower RAM, slower video card, no overclocking, only one year warranty (after that... you have to pay dell big bucks; I think components warranty does not work with Dells. The manufacturers of the parts will re-direct you to Dell I think)

Pros of the Home build: everything
Cons of the home build: nothing

I am no longer allowed to even really use a computer because it was progress report day. I hate my parents, I really hope they die. Like it wouldnt phase me the least bit if they did.

Now, I do understand you right now are not happy with them, but trust me.. you would miss them dearly. Do not disrespect your parents to this level!

Now, I assume that your progress was not as good as they expected and that's why they restricted your computer use. You might see this as unwarranted and mean, but your parents have your best long-term interest at heart, although that can conflict with your current short term interest.

I'd recommend you get your grades up to the level where they should be, and then you'll be back at your computer in no-time.

Regarding the build, tell your parents you have a sincere interest in a future as a computer engineer, and that working with computers will help you. You have to realize though that getting a career in computers is not easy, and hard work/good grades is a must.

Good luck.

Please, do not disrespect your parents like that. They've offered 15+ years now to raise you, which is a huge investment on their part.

They don't give a ****, It is either I get all A's like my brother did or I don't even bother, I heard it with my own ears just now from my dad talking to my mom "Maybe we should just kick him out at 18" I really don't know what to say.

Let's stay away from this subject so the thread doesn't get closed. I really agree with Chozart about being hands-on with computers helps you to understand them much better. Just never say game, or hint at games when talking about it. Talk about advanced 3D design and CAD and stuff like that. Also tell them it is a very mid-range system, which it is in all honesty, anything lower would be spending money on something that is already obsolete and it is a better idea to spend a little now so that you can upgrade certain parts in the future as new technology becomes available instead of having to wait for proprietary manufacturers to come out with a new upgrade that they would have to install, and you pay for the installation. Just a few tips for the argument that will surely ensue later on.

I have given up on a computer and computers in general with them officially, I really don't care anymore, There is no way to move them on the subject.

I guess the best thing would be to get a job and save your money then, and just buy it yourself.
