[PCG] Guild Wars 2 PvP to feature 300 player server vs. server battles and siege warfare - Page 2

Maybe I'll get back into MMO's smile.gif

Everything i've seen or read about GW2 points to it being the best game in the the last ~10 years. It's seriously so incredible, I get goosebumps talking about it. I've been playing GW1 like mad for the last 6 months just getting my HOM points up for GW2... I'm so hyped for this game, and i've seen enough unedited, raw footage to know it's going to be amazing.

The graphics aren't very amazing. MMO's don't have the lighting/shadow/physics system of most single player games and thats generally the hardest thing to run. In their raw videos they have 150-200 players fighting dragons with no slow downs.. and these videos were released on older hardware than whats out now.

While most players won't be able to max the game during these massive battles, pretty much everyone on OCN should have no issues. I would rather the game have graphics that are future proof, then bad graphics at launch. People with slower computers can go to a lower setting.

Also it's 150 vs 150 if i'm not mistaken, 300 players total.

confused.gif I'm going to assume that you aren't aware this is a MMO? I really hope you aren't comparing a MMO's connection method to LoL or Call of Duty. It doesn't matter if people have a bad connection, it won't affect you if your connection is good. MMOs do not work that way. Think about it... 1 person with a slow connection joining a WoW server doesn't affect the other 10,000 players. The same goes for here.

As long as the server can handle the 300 person load, and your connection is good, nothing else will matter.

Good choice.. the more you read about this game the better it's going to sound. ANet is really making a gem here, they could of released this almost 2 years ago but they decided to expand and add fully explorable underwater worlds.. and then they expanded some more. They are making sure theres a massive amount of content that is solid, and stable before releasing.

Go watch a bunch of youtubes and dev dairies on it, i've wasted a few hundred hours or so doing that. The press NDA lifts on the 20th, so we have 3 days before we get some real hands-on reviews. The only problem I see this game having is the fact it'll likely release around the same time as Diablo 3.

I'm leaning toward playing GW2 over Diablo 3 if they launch at roughly the same time. Diablo 3 is more single player based, and if you start playing that after it's been out for a few months, it won't be a very hard to catch up to other players. With GW2, everyone will be learning stuff for the first few months, and the game will definitely have a longer learning curve than D3. Getting GW2 a few months later will make it harder to figure stuff out, and everyone will think you are a noob.

Diablo 3 also just doesn't look near as impressive as this game, but both games have been on the top of my "been waiting forever" list... so it's going to drive me nuts either way. But who am I kidding, i'll prob end up juggling both games at the same time and get about 1 hour of sleep every day. These 2 games will likely be my life for the next 2-3 years, just like Diablo 2 was when I was in junior high.

GWI: Do you have an idea of how many people are in a WvWvW?
Jonathan: We’re estimating right now that we’ll be able to get about 500 people into each map.
Matt: Since there about 4 WvWvW maps, that’s about 2,000 players in total. So we have a pretty large capacity but we still haven’t done a whole lot of optimization passes either so we’re hoping we can get that number a little higher. We’re just estimating 500 as our cap right now.
