I remember being in some 500-600+ player PvP sieges in Shadowbane almost 10 years ago, and some large battles in the original Jumpgate around the same time were almost as large; no zones, no queue.

Hoping GW2 signals a trend away from overly instanced crap.

Eeek stop saying that! I want them to take their time with it and finish it properly before the grand release.

I've had just about ENOUGH of games that have been warp-driven straight to retailers before the developers can even say "but...we're not done yet...!". BF3 was the last straw.

Closed beta is happening as we speak and before you know it, you'll be able to get your grubby hands on the open beta. The amount of expectation thrown onto this game is nothing short of stellar. Interestingly enough, I don't even know WHERE all this hype came from. GW1 was mediocre at best and nobody's really heard of ArenaNet.
I suppose MMO design has become so stale nowadays that the moment a game pops out of the dark brimming with tons of new innovations (instead of only 1-2 innovations and the rest copy-pasted from WoW/Lineage), it's enough to ensure a massive hype. Look at Rift, it only promised dynamic world events and people flocked to it like sheep only to find out a month later that a chunk of the playerbase was already gone (oh look, just like Aion tongue.gif).

Personally I'm badly fatigued from both MMO's and FPS's, they've literally been raining from the sky in the last 1-2 years. I'm on my 7th playthrough on ME2 and my WoW subscription continues, if that shows how bored I am frown.gif

Maybe titles like GW2 and ME3 will re-ignite my interest? But then again, that's how I felt about BF3 -_-

Is 300-500 a lot of people? I've been in some mmos and i've witnessed some big battles, but im sure they never went over 150v150.

I'm just trying to figure out the terrain/person ratio. I LIKE CLUSTERED FIGHTS. If it's up to 250v250 and the map is HUUUUUGE then i don't think it will look that massive will it?

They said there will be very few "solo" instances, the few instances that are in the game will have a limit of like 100+ players, and content will scale based on the number of players. Just like the outside world, content around you scales based on how many players are in that area.

The game is not instanced like GW1, thats the main reason they are making GW2.. because tons argued that GW1 is not "truely" a MMO. There are not even heroes/henchmen in GW2, which plays a HUGE part in GW1. GW2 is so different from GW1 that both games will likely be around for years to come.

WoW biggest PVP area is 40 vs 40, and there's only 2 of them. 100vs100vs100 is MASSIVE, and I hope the populate will be able to allow such massive battles to fill up. Really taking a gabble with battles that big.

Not to mention, your average F2P MMO player's budget is generally low. Many GW1 players cant even max GW1, and it uses a mere 2% of my GTX 580 for a solid 60FPS. The system requirements for such battles will be very high.
