The game is not instanced like GW1, thats the main reason they are making GW2.. because tons argued that GW1 is not "truely" a MMO. There are not even heroes/henchmen in GW2, which plays a HUGE part in GW1. GW2 is so different from GW1 that both games will likely be around for years to come.
WoW biggest PVP area is 40 vs 40, and there's only 2 of them. 100vs100vs100 is MASSIVE, and I hope the populate will be able to allow such massive battles to fill up. Really taking a gabble with battles that big.
Not to mention, your average F2P MMO player's budget is generally low. Many GW1 players cant even max GW1, and it uses a mere 2% of my GTX 580 for a solid 60FPS. The system requirements for such battles will be very high.

Tarren Mill battles back before BG's were released had a few hundred people at a time.

If you're really interested in the game, go for it. I got it about a month and a half ago and getting into the main story missions isn't too difficult, and can even be soloed much of the way through. I'm on the third campaign now and only had help on some of it.

Of course, playing this way it doesn't feel too "MMO like" but I get a feel for the music, story, lore, etc. of the original game. If you have friends or can find a good guild, you can probably play with people more often than I have if you like.

I hope GW2 brings back some of the realm vs realm vs realm flavor that was so awesome back in Dark Age of Camelot's heyday. Nothing like huge guilds on three different factions all slamming into each other and trying to take over keeps. Sometimes the battles would go back and forth literally all day long.

EA and its puppet BioWare need to learn from these developers
