Did that.

Yeah, he won, but it's frustrating as all hell. tongue.gif

He's comparing my 470 to a Phenom II @ 3GHZ, to his 570, a COre i7 @ 5GHz.

Tell him to take a lap.

thumb.gif

But man, is he ever wrong. Just like jesusboots said, a GTX 580 isn't even 50%-70% faster than a GTX 470..

A GTX 570 is about 10-15% faster than a GTX 470. There may not even be that much, the cards are virtually identical...

just tell them that 470 = 448 cuda cores , 570 = 480 cude cores. overclock your 470 and you've got a 570. and walk away, don't say anything else.

What were the 3dmark 11 graphics scores? You shouldn't use the Pscore alone.

He's comparing my 470 to a Phenom II @ 3GHZ, to his 570, a COre i7 @ 5GHz.

Even if he won I'm damn sure the difference was not 70%. Just run the number. The difference in the scores is probably around the 15% mark or even less. For a more accurate number use the GPU scores.

Edit: I don't get it. Was it based on this graph that he claimed that there is a 70% difference in min FPS between a a OC'd 470 and a stock 570?
582

15,5 / 11,3 = 1,37... So the stock 570 is 37% faster when min FPS in this benchmark is measured. Where the hell does the 70% come from??

I don't know. Successful troll is successful, I just hate tech trolls the most. Here I go, providing all the information to back it up, then they slam it away as falsehood, and it frustrates me so.

I feel sorry for him.... poor guy rolleyes.gif. He can't believe the $120-150 card to perform like his 570 & will handle much higher voltages without blowing up all over his face.
Mind you... I compared a GTX 470 overclocked to 775 MHz to a GTX 580 at stock clocks (772 MHz) and the difference was only 25-30% in real world. Against the 570 the difference will be much lower.

gtx 470 can hit 6000 in 3d11 with good air cooler, 880-900mhz. . Maybe more with newer drivers. I tested more than year ago with Spitfire and under LN2 without mods( 930mhz).. AT 900mhz gtx 470 is only ronud 10% slower than gtx 580 ref. in BC2 and COP.

That GPU is overclocking beast when is cooled to normal temps, round 50% possible on good air cooler, more on water..

This 470 is overclocked to 850 MHz core & 1025 MHz memory. If you see the above benchmark you will see a 470 overclocked to 850 MHz is about as fast as a stock GTX 580 and almost a single frame slower than an overclocked GTX 570 (884 MHz).
It is also faster than the GTX 480 (804 MHz).
