1156, no.

1155, yes. And most current 1155 boards should be compatible with Ivy.

A new socket should not be needed until Haswell.

as blameless said, Ivy won't work on 1156.

It will work on 1155 boards.

ok so who thinks the ivy bridge i5s will be 6 core or will they still be 4 cores?
They will be pretty much same as Sandy, max 4 cores/8 threads. Ivy bridge-E and Sandy bridge-E have 6-core processors, but those are socket 2011.

How do you know piledriver will be 10% faster? If you have a magic crystal ball, could you PM me the results of the next NHL round pls?

You can't compare two entirely different processors based on core numbers. For all we know Intel's 4-core may be better than 8-core piledriver, or it may not.

Just like Bulldozer was supposed to be faster than the Sandy... or even the Thuban's? Lol
