What is known about the 7990 and Nvidia equivalent?

Hi,

I'm really in the void about whether to upgrade just yet or not. I have a 5970 and really want to play BF3 on ultra. Still getting some VRAM issues on high settings in BF3 after I play for about an hour or so.

I was going to sell the 5970 and buy a 7970 but don't know much about the 7990 or really anything about Nvidia's cards.

Is the 7990 going to be a dual-gpu card like the 5970? 2x 7970's?

And is Nvidia bringing anything out soon that will top the 7970 or the new 7990. Would it be worth it waiting till march or so till upgrade?

EDIT: Just saw this in another post: "As an aside, leaked information regarding Nvidia's next offerings (probably released in May, possibly April) give them a MASSIVE lead. Especially if you don't plan to overclock, one thing said the nvidia flagship should be upwards of 40% higher performing than a 7970 (remember, because the 7970 overclocks so well, it would be difficult to guess how much more it would be worth if you were going to OC these cards). So, unless you NEEDED to upgrade now, and given the nature of your search as you don't want to overclock, you could always wait for that if you had a couple months."

Hmmm....

lol I didn't even know there were Ultra settings in BF3. I'm playing it right now at 1080p on all high and the highest settings for AA, aniso and occlusion with an HD 6870 1GB - I'm getting consistent 40+ FPS'.

Nivida's Kepler is coming soon, though they might not be releasing the tier you're interested just yet - I'd wait and see. From what I've read, the 7990 will be in around Q2, and yes, dual GPU so most likely 7970 twins.

So once again in the case of the 5970. 2x 5870's were faster than the 5970. 2x 7970's will probably be faster than the 7990.

Just wish I knew when the next Nvidia lineup is coming out. Is there any info on that yet?
