Blank screen during clean Windows 7 install (help me out!)

Thread Starter
I am doing a clean install on my brothers PC so I put the install disc in and set the boot disk priority to CDROM drive etc etc and after I press any button to boot from CD drive, it gets to the Windows screen but it just has the cursor and the windows 7 background....nothing else.

How do I fix this?

Try a different SATA port?

Disable any 3rd party SATA controllers, ex. JMicron, Marvell, etc.

Make a bootable USB installer instead of the CD drive.

Make a Windows 7 Bootable USB Installer: Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Make a bootable Windows 7 USB:
  1. Open the Start Menu, type diskpart, press Enter
  2. Type lis dis, press Enter
  3. Type sel dis X (where X is the number your USB drive shows up as), press Enter
  4. Type cle, press Enter
  5. Type cre par pri, press Enter
  6. Type act, press Enter
  7. Type for quick fs=fat32, press Enter
  8. Type ass, press Enter
  9. Type exi, press Enter
  10. Copy everything from the Windows 7 installation DVD onto the USB key (a simple drag and drop will do; if you have an .iso extract first).

    Video Tut:

Try a different ISO.
Click here for download links (Click to show)

These are 100% legit SP1 copies directly from Microsoft, having a direct Digital River download from Microsoft is the only way you can link Windows 7 downloads on this site. You will still need an activation key to use these copies after the 30 day grace period is over.

Windows 7 Home Premium:
32-bit Windows 7 Home Premium x86 SP1
64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium x64 SP1

Windows 7 Professional:
32-bit Windows 7 Professional x86 SP1
64-bit Windows 7 Professional x64 SP1

Windows 7 Ultimate:
32-bit Windows 7 Ultimate x86 SP1
64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1

Change sata mode to IDE or AHCI depending on what you have it set on now. Then when done do a simple regedit and change it to AHCI if you used IDE mode.
