P8-z68 Won't Boot - Boot Device LED

Thread Starter
My build has been working fine these past few months, but the other day I decided to work on cable management. I took out my 6950, moved my 2 internal storage drives to a lower position on the hd cage, and I re routed all the sata cables. My SSD is my boot drive.

Now when I turn on my system, the Asus logo shows up and details my CPU and what not, then goes to "no signal". On the motherboard the "Boot_Device" LED turns on. Here's what I've tried:

Put GPU back in: Nothing.
Unplug 2 storage drives, only use SSD: Nothing
Unplug all hard drives: BIOS says "No device detected, will boot into BIOS and does so.
Press DEL to get into BIOS: Successfully enter BIOS, but as soon as I leave the screen turns off and the system reboots as before.

I've tried different SATA cables, and I've tried each of my 6 ports. I didn't think moving hard drives around would be such a problem. I can upload a video if needed.

Try unplugging all the usb devices and try to boot. If that doesn't work enter the bios and restore to factory defults. dont forget to write down the stats on the overclock (if you have one). If that doesn't work maybe its the overclock itself.
Hope this helps thumb.gif

Yeah I thought maybe it was the USB devices, but nothing is plugged in but my keyboard. And in the BIOS I put it on "low performance" (ie no OC). So I'm not sure. d I might try reseting things. Maybe reset the CMOS battery? Unfortunately I don't have a Windows 7 setup on one of my flash drives like I usually do. I'd hate to have to reinstall Windows anyway and lose everything.

Are there any other options?

you know if you remove the cmos it dosent delete windows. So try taking out the cmos battery for 10 seconds.
Edit: Cause i remember when i changed 1 setting on my z68x-ud3p it wouldn't boot so i removed the battery and it worked.

Im having similar problems with a system i just recently built and cant tell if theres a problem in the graphics card or motherboard.

When i installed the graphics card and driver for it and restarted the system, the screen went all washed colours and was coming out at really low resolution 600x800, so i thought it might be a bad driver. so I tried both latest and older drivers from the nvidia website and the cd and now, whenever i boot up the system, the widnows starting logo comes and the mobo logo, and then my monitor just says no signal detected ?! its driving me crazy ! I have tried everything you said aswell, disconnected any extra usb devices, and i dont see why any of the cables will be faulty as i just brought everything. The only comfort i have is that intergrated graphics card is working fine so I am able to use everything. I also reinstalled windows and that made no difference

And yes I did make sure in the bios i switch the settings to use PCI-E discreted graphics card and still ahve the same problem. Im in the process of returning the graphics card, but now im wondering whether its the motherboard. I have tried flashing the bios , both by shorting it and removing the cmos battery and that made no difference. I wish I had another graphics card i could test with !!

Also even with the intergrated card, sometimes it takes agess to boot, it just freezes at this black screen with a dash in the top left corner and a number and letter at thje bottom corner, like B4 , or 92 or something ? no idea why ! when i press del to go into the bios sometimes that itself takes ages to come up.

my specs are, core i52500k, 8gb ripjawsx, 750gb wd cav black, twin frozr gtx570, msi z68a-g45a mobo, no ssd, no OC as yet

I made a video showing the boot problem and explaining everything, but my tablet won't let me upload to YouTube.
Long story short, the battery reset didn't change anything, and there is no overclock. Not sure what to do, because my computer detects my SSD, but it just won't boot, as if the SSD doesn't have an OS on it or something.

Mabilal, you have a different motherboard than me, not to mention it's new, so your problem is going to be completely different from mine. Most likely one of your new parts is DOA. Whatever t is, you're better off making your own thread and not hijacking mine (seeing as you're new here, I suggest you google "what is hijacking a thread?")

Schmuckley, I've bootd into the BIOS successfully and chosen the SSD as the device from which to boot from, so that's not the problem. And since there are no USB devices or other hard drives connected, it's not like it's choosing something else to boot from.

Again, all I have is my Asus Transformer and I'm really starting to get an idea of how this thing isn't a real laptop replacement. If I had a windows laptop I could probably get ahold of some windows 7 recovery to put on a USB, and wrk from there. Honestly recovering some boot settings is probably all I need to do. Windows 7 seems pretty capable of repairing itself when it comes to boot.
