Dude the graph you're displaying is color gamut. Manufacturers choose to display wide/normal color gamuts and most graphic professionals choose to normal color gamut because it's more compatible with photo software. Next time know what the hell your quoting before you post it

this is what you should have posted which is color accuracy.

The Speeds in iPad 2 are at a point where faster speck will not make a noticeable difference. So in the end its the same thing with a better screen. I personally would take a lower res with better screen technology. Something more then just IPS.

Not requiring AA in game, smoother looking text, more screen real-estate in general...All worth the larger screen.

As a technology piece yes its a big upgrade but in terms of functionality its not going to make it big time changer. After using iOS for so long now i feel like its very dry now.Easy to use but i think people that wanted to give smart phones a try already did and know how to operate one. In the end of the day it will probably sell better then iPad 2 and i will be buying one. I am not making the mistake of getting a Android Tab ever again.

Tablets may just be for special tasks for you, but for others they're extremely useful electronics.

You've been doing it with video games forever. Of course, this only applies to stuff that is actually rendered on the spot, like fonts and vector graphics. Prerendered images will be scaled (oh, yeah, probably using bilinear interpolation).
Translation: Apps will need to support this resolution if they use any custom images, or else everything will just be scaled up and look like crap. Go on, scale this webpage up by 100% and look at the avatars. They look like crap, don't they?

They're getting us out of the 1080p rut, at least.

And no, it won't look like crap...By keeping the screen the exact same size and replacing each pixel with 4, anything made for the iPad2 will just run at the iPad2 style resolution and look the same as it did on that, while iPad3 apps (At least apps that are aware of the extra resolution) can benefit.

Your analogy doesn't work, it'd be more like if you had a 720p 42" TV and a 1080p 42" TV and then scaled up the webpage on the 1080p TV until it was identical in size to the 720p one, it'd look the same.

Because proven fact is wrong, due to Apple being the innovators here? I can still see the pixels on my SGSII quite clearly, but I don't mind it that much to be fair.

Because the cheaper car won't have luxuries like leather seats, heated seats, wood on the dashboard, built-in navigation; the list goes on. People don't choose a Mercedes over a Mitsubishi Evo because of speed. People choose it because of luxury. The same thing goes for the iPad. People are willing to trade some speed for the luxuries that come with an iPad. For example: Battery life, the widest selection of apps, the nicest build quality.

Besides, your original statement is stupid. How many competitors to the iPad 2 were actually any good? 1, maybe 2. The only thing that can arguably beat it came out only a few months ago.

You have to consider iPad 4. Look at iPhone 4. It still had same GPU as 3GS. I bet Apple will still use same GPU and just up the CPU. They have to leave some upgrades for iPad 4 lol.
No, they can't. It won't be powerful enough, any game that would run at 60 FPS on the iPad 2 would only run at 15 FPS on the iPad 3 if it scales linearly, and at best 30 FPS. They'll need at least an SGX543MP6 to compensate for the large resolution, but if the PowerVR 600 series is available, they'll definitely go for it because they'll only need one for about five times the performance of the MP2 -- which is more than required to compensate for the larger resolution.

We won't be seeing a $499 iPad 3, I'm sure of it. The Transformer Prime 700T with the 1200p screen is +$100 over the previous model without the screen, so there's no way Apple's going to absorb that cost -- I'd love it if they did, but it's unlikely.

There is absolutely no way anything can look better than the source after going through scaling. Ever. It's just bigger, which you subjectively like more, but it's also less sharp.

Here are some shots of the Vita without (top) bi-linear filtering, and with (bottom) bi-linear filtering. As you can see, sharper isn't always better. Bi-linear filtering may blur the image just a bit, but at the distance you hold the Vita it looks much better, trust me. It comes off by default and the first thing I noticed when playing a PSP game on the Vita was the jaggies, which was quickly solved by enabling bi-linear filtering. The image below doesn't show the filtering as good as it could, because screenshots are disabled when playing PSP games on the Vita, so they have to be taken with a camera.

and why isn't 2048x1536 practical? higher resolution results in a better image and there's no argument that can possibly counter that. i don't understand why some people are against it. is it because apple is pushing the technology of tablets and evolving the hardware vs the competitors?

i may not get one but i'm really glad apple is so committed to the tablet market while the other manufacturers seem to make them just because they want in.

Do you are saying just because they get the display they will also get Game with that resolution. Not going to happen, It will when iPad 4 comes out. Thats the problem with this screen. It will only start to get used when iPad 3 is dead.
