Thinking of Buying H80, Anything I should know?

Alright so I've been looking into all the high end air coolers and to be honest I don't feel like buying another air cooler when I upgrade. I am thinking about going Sandy - E or Ivy, and I am concerned about putting another large HSF unit like my old TRUE in my case.

It's just so large and every time I move my case to go to lans there is a risk of it moving. Once I had to adjust it because it moved and temps were off a bit after going to a lan.

Anyway I'm hoping to get some input on these things. I had CoolIt Eco a couple months ago but sold it because it didnt make much of a difference over my TRUE. However, I heard the H80 performs much better. I also HATED the Eco's mounting system, corsairs solution looks so much simpler.

I'm just wondering how long I can expect the pump to last on it. If it does go bad in 5 years or so, am I stuck with buying whole new unit?

For those of you with an H80 or similar unit what are your experiences?

If you going for the H80, I would actually recommend springing the extra 20-or30 bucks for an antec 920. Similar profile, but it cools like a beast.

Toms and techreport have some great reviews that you might want to read.

I had the Antec 920 and its a solid cooler but the stock fans are incredibly loud at max so depending on your noise preferences you may not run it to its full potential. I don't know about the H80 but you may want to invest in a a custom watercooling solution if budget is not much of an issue. I know I'll never go back to a closed loop on my main rig biggrin.gif

A 920 with some upgraded fans is awesome. Don't go for used ones though. I'm sure Corsair's warranty doesn't transfer and leak would be disastrous. Slim chance of course, but I would deffo want proof of being the original owner just in case.

I don't want a custom loop because I don't want to have to worry about cleaning rads and such. I just want a good cooler that performs on par with high end air coolers like the TRUE or a D12. I'm getting the H80 mainly because its on sale for 89.99, so its cheaper than the antec 920.

As for leaks, I'm fairly confident it won't leak on me, these things are really stiff. I'm more concerned with the pump failing on me than that. But I will be buying new so I will have the warranty to fall back on.

As for fans I have a pair of Gelid Silent 12's that I might put on if it gets too noisy.

The fans on the H80 arent really all that loud if you keep them on the silent setting, but the H80 does this weird thing where every time you turn on your computer, the fans spin super fast, and super loud, then after a while so, they slow down to the correct speed, its usually quiet by the time you get to your desktop, but its still kind of annoying that it does that.

And I think that if you were to plug it into the mother board, you wouldnt be able to change the fan speed, and it would be stuck on high

But according to the Corsair Website, the stock fans can have quite alot of air pressure

If it does leak though you can be sure I will make a big thread about it here, like ZainyAntics did.

But when google "H50 leak" his story is the only one that comes up on multiple forums and blogs. So it would seem leaking is a pretty rare occurrence for these. At least less likely than a custom loop leaking.

I have an H50 on my secondary rig and it performs beautifully, and I think you are right about the H50 leak occurrences being rare. I have used mine for quite a while and have had no issues/leaks. Corsair H80 with(or without) some upgraded fans would do the trick nicely.
