linux micro server

Thread Starter
Looking to setup a linux micro server (mini-ITX or similar), and after hardware recommendations. I used to use old laptops but my last one finally bit the dust, and the only ones I got left are Pentium Ms (i.e. 8-9 years old!)

I'm in an apartment so it will have to sit in the living room, hence size and noise is important.

Performance isn't a big deal, I'll just be running a standard LAMP stack (primary webpage will be ampache), ssh, squid, and a bunch of download clients. 99% of the use is for SSH tunnelling back to proxy ports, and headless downloading.

Will most likely be running fedora because well I've been running it since FC3, so old habits die hard.

any hardware suggestions appreciated. I've got a spare 2.5" drive as well as 2Gb of DDR2 laptop RAM lying around so a mini system that takes that would be pretty cool, but I don't want to be spending weekends manually working around driver issues etc.

Anything built after 2005. biggrin.gif

There aren't any mITX mobos that accept SO-DIMM DDR2 sorry.

For a case based on what you need, grab a Habey

On the cheap, grab any mITX AMD E350 based board. I am partial to Asus Boards just because they are passive.

Ram is dirt cheap right now so anything will work.
