hello everybody, i just finished my scorpious platform build, i love it.

well first off, i'm really glad to be here, i found this forum while i was contemplating my build and then waiting for parts to arrive. i was up till 3:00am two nights in a row, getting everything put together(depending on what had not arrived in the mail yet). i took my time, routed all the wires as best i could. read, read, and then i read some more. i wanted everything to be right. well this moring the last piece of the puzzle came in the mail(16 gb's of ddr3 2000mhz). i will post pics as soon as i get a chance. for all the people that say that the new fx-8120 is lacking, well i just ran everything i have all at once, downloaded very large files, opened five separate browser windows, three youtube windows(running music vidios), lanched vlc player and ran a blu ray rip at 1080p, and connected to my other pc and transferred about a dozen very large files and programs, .....the cpu usage never went above 11 percent, oh, and did i mention that i also started call of duty mw3(medium settings). yeah i guess if i wanted to be able to say that i have the fastest pc, i would have gone with an intel, but i would rather not say i have the fastest pc and be able to do more things at once and be productive. i really like amd, and i have always been on the side of the underdog. you watch in the next couple of months amd is going to make some heads turn. ... second best always tries harder. anyway here are some specs

amd fx-8120
biostar FA-990fxe
XFX Radion HD 6870(dual) 1gb
16 gb's ddr3 2000mhz ram
seagate barracuda 7200 rpm sata HD
win7 ultimate (x64)
raidmax tornado case

thanks again to everyone here on the forum, like i said earlier, i'm really glad i found you guy's ..........piledragon

only 11% usage then you don't even need the multi-tasking power of the octocore.

my cpu can do all that easily.

you're gonna hate me for saying this but you would've seen better FPS with an intel, and they'd have no problem doing the multi-tasking you spoke of.

also why would you buy two 6870's instead of one powerful card.

maybe a year ago it would've been a good decision.

16GB of RAM is probably overkill as well, unless running programs that require it.

I think when people say the bulldozers are lacking, it's due to price/performance.

Glad that you loved it piledragon! I was contemplating getting it myself but the power consumption turned me off in the end..

Nope, its still better price/perf than any single GPU config.

Congrats OP

Congrats OP

depends if you can justify the extra power consumption. plus outlay for a higher wattage PSU.

Then you get more driver issues than with a single GPU.

Plus try reselling two 68 series in a few years time..................

good if living for the moment yes..............

all just opinions each to their own enjoy the beast there shouldn't be anything you can't play. thumb.gif

i wasn't sure why everyone was talking about two 6870's, i just figured it out, when i listed my hd 6870(dual), i meant dual fans on the card, sorry if i worded it incorrectly

Anyway it would've been a very solid choice. Cheaper than a GTX580 yet it outperforms it. Don't listen to 'Casey'. Those cards scale up to 90-95%, the best of the market.
