No need for Google. I got yer testimony right here. The left primary mouse button starts to fail after 6 or so months. Will not hold on to things, or will double click when I single click.

I first got a G500 as a replacement for a failed G5 back in 2008. I love the G500 design. Perfect size/shape; nice button options. I like the rougher surface much better than the candy-coating of the MX518 which just feels slimy to me. I got so used to assignable tilt-wheel buttons that I cant live without it (use them for cut/paste, or things like quicksave in games), and the G500 wheel is nicely raised for tilt-action.

Logitech customer service is godly. The original G500 was a replacement for a G5 that broke back in 2008. They've sent me 3 more G500's since then due to the button issue. Once they even replaced a G500 that got damaged by UPS. That's like six years of mouse replacements when you include the G5. Outstanding. However I think I'm done with the G500. I am considering the G400 but I really, really like the hyperscroll for web browsing and the tilt wheel for gaming. I suppose I can learn to live without them, but it sucks that the perfect mouse for me doesn't remain perfect for long.

Yea, if they would kind of mash the two into one uber mouse it would be godly. I can say I don't miss the 3rd side button on the G500 much, it was nice but I can live with out it. The hyper scroll thing still bothers me to this day.... I miss it bad. I never used the side to side much. I do love logitech customer support, its epic. One of the reasons I love their products is their CS. I will say after getting the G400 set up and adjusted its amazing. Sensor quality is sweeet! Good luck with your choice.

I just ordered the G400. Just this minute. I'll miss the hyperscroll, but Mass Effect 3 is sitting on my hard drive waiting for launch day, and I want a fully working mouse. I'll keep the G500 nearby for web browsing.

G400 is very good. I was using the G500 for a long time. Moved over the G400 took me a few days to get use to it being thinner but its the best mouse i have used.

iIset mine to use os mouse settings. at 800 dpi,on my megasoma mousepad , and I have never had less issues with a mouse. I have no idea how the sensor is on cloth or metal surfaces , nor do I know how it works at higher dpi or using logitechs mouse sensitivity settings. But on my megasoma it has tracked better than any other mouse I have ever had,. I wish i could gut it and put its inards in a Death Adder because the DA was so damn comfortable.

I have a strange grip that no one else has... mine is a cross between a palm and a finger grip. So no, I don't pick it up the way you do.

Though, what I can say, based on what you were having issues with (in he OP), you had the DPI set up all the way. These mice need to be modified to fit how you play. That means setting up the sensitivity the way you like it, acceleration, pointer speed, etc. Then from there, adjust the on the fly DPI changes to your liking. Since the G500 is basically a MX518 on steroids, I took to it like a fish to water. After playing with it and getting the DPI set correctly, I was very happy. Plus, I like a rather weighty mouse. smile.gif

It all comes down to personal preference and not everyone is going to like a certain mouse as the one before it. If you want something that is EXACTLY the same as the MX518 (just updated), get the G400.

When I used the G500 for gaming I did pick it up a lot and found no problems in doing so. The sandpaper-like sides gave me a nice grip and felt nice to just hold. I even picked it up when I weighted it down with 2x 4.5g weights in the front and 2x 1,7g weights in the back.

Of course this thread is really old so I guess this is no longer an issue.
