How do i keep my CPU at 4.8Ghz??

Thread Starter
Hey i was trying to get my overclock speed to stay at 4.8Ghz and it will do that, but the power save keeps on tuning it down because its not all being used. it will go to 4.8 upon start-up but then it will drop to 1644mhz
update~
so far i set my windows performance to high. what do i need to disable in the bios to get my CPU to idle at 4,8?

Windows, power profile and select performance profile.

Why would you want to keep the CPU @ 4.8GHz idling? Windows will automatically increase multi when there is slight load.

constant 4.8ghz would be stupid on your electric bill, waste of power just isn't cool man... *don't do that*

That's a huge environmentalism no no

Ewwe...

I could see 4.2ghz, at stock volts, constant, but 4.8 is just stupid.

Yea a CPU is so power hungry, totally not the GPU drawing most power from a rig nono, it is the CPU..

I have two different custom power profiles one allows the CPU to go as low as possible clock wise and the other to keep it at 100% for gaming.

power options in windows - adjust cpu idle to 100%. In BIOS, disable C states.

Are you having stability issues @ 4.8ghz? If so, you can disable speedstep and it might help. If not, it is perfectly normal for it to idle a lot lower and shouldn't hurt anything. If your problem is that at load it stays at a lower speed, disabling speedstep should solve that too. Don't just disable speedstep for the hell of it. lower clocks at idle is a good thing.
