Heres a build ive been planning-

cpu- amd athlon ii x3 455 -$80
mobo- biostar a880gz -$70
gpu-amd radeon hd 6570 -$60
ram- patriot sector 5 1600mhz(8gb) -$40
The rest- old pc parts i have- 250gb hdd, etc.

This will be running linux mint. The only games i play are minecraft and wow, minecraft supports linux natively and i am going to try running wow in wine (if youve tryed this please post) and if not i have a copy of windows server 2003 i can dual boot into. I may try to find another 250gig hdd used for raid 0 since the one i have is sata1 and dead slow. Will not overclock yet, but i will certinly go for the unlock on the x3 (again if you done this please post). Any problems?

Yeah unlock the CPU and there will be no bottleneck at all. Then again, even with that GPU and 3 core CPU, am sure you will have no bottleneck anyway. It seems well balanced overall. Just check on the CPU unlock thing. See how possible it is. If its very much possible and you know it can be done without issues then go for it!

oh as for raid, always use the same hard drive model and size with raid set to 0 mode and a strip size of 128kb smile.gif

What ive seen is that about 75% of people get a fourth core, and about 25% get an L3. So it could end up as an athlon x3 x4 or a phenom x3 x4. I think if you get a forth core cpuz reads phenom ii x4 B55 weather you have l3 or not, not sure what happens if you get an l3 but not a forth core. Its by no means gurrantyed but couldbe a good bonus, and like you said, an x3 would really bottleneck it anyway. Looks like one hell of a proc for $80!

Bout the raid, wht happens if the drives arnt of the same model?

You might see random performance loss and possible stuttering during games. It is mostly important that they are the exact same size. Some models can be mixed, but there is always a slight risk. Low i must admit, but a risk none the less.

The one im looking at is a seagate, the one i have is a wd. They are the same size both sata 1 and have the same size cache (mesly 8mb). Are they close enough? I will likely upgrade that frist when i get the money, ive been looking at the seagate barrcuda st1000dm003 (long name, they should have kept the old scem and called it 7200.13) its got a 64mb cache, and a whole terabyte on one platter. Looks fast for a hard drive and only costs $130 even now. But no money now, so it will have to wait. Hey, they might even be cheaper when i do get the money. I looked at llano ive use them before but this was $5 more then the 3850 and $5 less then the 3870k, with a better gpu and a cpu on the more upgradeable am3/am3+.

You could probably save a few more bucks by just going to 1333 RAM instead.

^ At the expense of possible significant overclocking flexibility.  This is a multiplier-locked processor.  Good non-generic-binned RAM can be critical for ref clock flexibility.

Plus its only like $2 more then most of the 1333 ram.
