Suggestions on Gaming Rig Build

Thread Starter
Well I've been attempting to slowly pick out which components I want for my computer while maintaining my budget. So far I am to:

Case: Antec Dark Fleet DF-85
Motherboard: ASUS Crosshair IV Formula AM3 AMD 890FX
CPU:Intel Core i5-2500k
GPU: Sapphire AMD Radeon HD 6870
RAM CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
PSU: Undecided
HDD: 320GB Seagate Barracuda
Cooling: Undecided but, I would really like to get into liquid cooling.

Any suggestions on any of the Undecided areas or any part of the build would be very appreciated.
Thanks.

You got either a wrong mobo or a wrong CPU...

That mobo is for AMD.

That CPU is Intel.

What is your max budget and use for the new build?

Well I was hopping not to spend much more than a $1000 but if need be it could... I plan on using it for playing games like Battlefield 3 in eyefinity mode. I realize my mistake and I'm taking care of it by picking out another... I'm thinking about just changing the MoBo, possibly looking for an asus or EVGA or if you have any suggestions on the MoBo or a different processor it would be helpful.

Don't think you will be able to play BF3 with eyefinity on a single ATI 6870.

I was told by someone that I would be able to, also found lots of videos showing the 6870 in eyefinity on 3 46" screens, but I'd only be playing on 23"x3 max most likely
post #6 of 104
1 6870 is not going to give you what you are looking for, i built my current rig in october getting 1 6870 just to keep initial cost down. on a single 19" square old monitor i could run it on medium at best with kinda crap frame rates. But then i got another for a good price ( both together under $300 cdn) and it is much beter.

i don't play on more than one screen because i cant stand it, but am now playing on a 24" at 1080 on ultra (minus the aa) rarely droping below 60fps

If you're going on Eyefinity, an HD6870 isn't going to handle it. Try looking for at least an HD6950.

Secondly, I would say get another case, the NZXT Phantom , Xclio Windtunnel or LIAN LI Lancool PC-K63 are as good if not better for nearly half the price. Use that spare cash for the GPU.

Then, if you are really going for budget, try using a cheaper mobo, this one looks decent:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157271

For cooling, I'm not a pro in water cooling. However, you can always stay on air for a while and then go for it. No need for an extravagant cooler if you plan going liquid soon after, so a little cooler with good potential could be interesting. This one isn't the best out there, but I got it and can say it does a great job for cheap: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103064.

PSU side, I'd say a good 850w from Corsair or any reliable brand.

Hope I've been helpful!

Well maybe I'll stick to one screen for now, maybe two for multitasking but, eventually I'd like to upgrade and possibly get another. Well does anyone have any suggestions on change in Mobo, CPU, PSU, or Cooling?
how about some thing like
Case:
NZXT Source 210 40$
CPU :
Core i5 2500K 180$
Motherboard:
ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 122$
RAM :
SAMSUNG 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 48$
Graphics card :
SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 7950 3GB 384-bit GDDR5 450$
PSU :
Rosewill HIVE Series HIVE-550W 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified, Modular 70$
HDD :
Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000.C 500GB SATA2 Hard Drive 7200RPM 16MB Cache 3.5IN OEM 60$
Cooling :
Corsair Cooling Air Series A70 30$
Total : 1000$
if you spend 20$ more then you might get the one of the cheapest closed liquid cooling system Antec Kuhler H2O 620 50$ which does not even perform as good as the Corsair A70 which i have mentioned above here have a look

for under 1000$, here's what I would say to go with:

PSU - COOLER MASTER Silent Pro RSA00-AMBAJ3-US 1000W 170$
Case - LIAN LI Lancool PC-K63 110$
HDD - Seagate Barracuda 320gb 90$
GPU - Saphire HD6950 Dirt3 Edition 280$
CPU - Intel Core-i5 2500k 230$
MOBO - ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 150$
RAM - CORSAIR Vengence 8gb 50$

Total: 1100$ with shipping on the CA website, in the US you can remove 100$ from that.
