Over 100fps and GPU Usage still not at 99% - not CPU bottleneck - HELP! - Page 4

I really don't know if i can trust the gpu usage quoted in afterburner.
According to it, my old fx-55 ( @3.1ghz) will push my 460 gtx to 100% while running 3DO6. That doesn't seem right to me

At the time people were recommending the 212 left and right, I wouldn't mind picking up another cooler if it will lower the temps. What do you recommend?

AFAIK, since the 11.x drivers you can no longer turn off Catalyst A.I. which essentially disables the 2nd GPU.

I have one of these fans connected to the cooler: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103063R

Any recommended fans? I suppose I could put another fan on the other side of the cooler, but it would have to be blowing air the other way then my current fan and attach on the other side.

That's the first page I looked at lol. First thing that comes up on google smile.gif. It came up for literally half a second in the task bar and disappeared so I don't know if it's a problem. I was just surprised to see that with my setup. Maybe it was cause my VRAM was all used up? Was playing BF3 and it was getting choppy going over the 2GB (1GB) VRAM limit of my card.

Same with gaming, for instance if its a CPU intensive game your GPU is mainly there for video output. Also you do realize these new drivers utilize a thing called power saving, Nvidia for instance has a feature which you can turn off and the GPU runs at 100% all the time. Its just means in that game the GPU is not getting fully use and something is holding them back. This also tell you that upgrading the GPU or GPUs will not get you any extra fps. If you have 99% GPU usage it means that the system is good and could use a nice GPU upgrade and still get higher fps.

Pretty much any fan in push pull setup. The 212+ is pretty one of the best HSF you can buy because its very efficient and is really low priced. It should be more then enough for your 920 as long as your case has good air flow. I can push my 2600k to 4.7 and run P95 and see a max of about 65c. Remember when adding another fan you want >heatsink> not < heatsink > or >heatsink< but i am sure you know that.

Never mind they appear to have changed that adaptive setting. Been a while since I used it.

Crossfire/SLI Scaling isnt perfect, thats why people tend to shy away from them and pick single card solutions. I'm with the other guys and say its your drivers. But heck, 70 or 100fps doesnt really matter, unless its hitting 30, thats the problem. rolleyes.gif

Maybe you missed it,

Disable Windows Aero, or pick a theme without it, and test the GPU usage.

Ok Mr Engineer let us know how they work please. Im dying to know why a game that doesn't use a GPUs full potential will max out a GPU.

I don't know if this will help but I had to change my regedit crap 'EnableUlps' to 0.... i had the same problem with my HD5770's a while back (which I ended up selling)

try that, search for it and change them all to 0.
