Core2 E6300 Runing hot STOCK!

Thread Starter
The Core2 is running at 55 C underload at stock clock rating of 1.86ghz. And idle rating of 42 C. Are these temps ok? Im guessing im ruled out of overclocking because of these temps that are alot higher than they should be. Every thing else in the system is fairly cool.

Stock Heat sink and Fan.

Checked Heatsink paste and fitting. Its seated fine.

Stock fan is what? 80mm? That my friend is not enough to move air around the heat-sink and on top of that the heatsink is made out of "cheap" AL. Don't expect a miracle with that, most likely you'll get better results with a Big Typhoon, something that has a 120mm fan or uses a 120mm fan to cool down the CPU, along with a copper/AL heat-sink.

At 2136rpm that 80mm fan is barely moving some air, the 120mm fan in my Tuniq Tower 120 moves probably 3 times more air than that and that's the reason why my 3.0ghz Conroe only goes as high as 43c. And 33c idle.

Sometimes it helps if you have good air circulation inside your case, for example if you use a 120mm fan for intake and 120mm fan for exhaust and a 120mm side panel fan always help. If you don't have this? I'd say start moding your case.

Sounds about right. I had lower than that, but my case has 2x120MM fans + 1x80MM fan blowing air onto the northbridge+cpu.

I get 58 LOAD, but I'm now overclocked to 2.55GHz. Check out my build log, I think I put temps there somewhere.

Regards,

Jimmy

so stock HS on a 6300 with load temps of 55-60 is normal?

If you don't increase your voltage when you overclock, the temps should stay about the same. That was the case with me. Went from stock to 2.03Ghz and idle is 43 load is 50 on AC 7 Pro. It is recommended that you get a better cooler if you plan to hit really high numbers.

Yea get a better cooling for about $30 or just overclock without touching the volts and then when it becomes unstable, knock it back to the highest stable OC

Running two case fans with ambient temperature in the mid 70s F, and my AS5 hasn't been completely broken in yet.

I have not started overclocking my 6700 yet, it is still being broken in (and Windows is just plain broken right now ).....but it is possible for the temps to increase even without any additional voltage. The higher FSB will place additional stress on the CPU which will raise temps. Although not as much as bumping voltage usually.

Raising the FSB on my 920 from 260 to 272 (in 2 steps) resulted in a 1c average increase in temps. And of course, I noticed a larger increase in temps from the stock 200FSB up to 260FSB (12 steps...LOL)....all had the same voltage, 1.275v.

If you plan to run this system at stock or near stock settings that is fine, however, if you plan to overclock that CPU then you will want a better cooler. That's why they call it a 'stock' cooler, because it handles the CPU at stock speeds.

edit for spelling

I managed to drop the Underload temperature down by 5 C. So now its running at 50 C underload. I added a fan to my GPU heatsink. And added another 80 mm extractor fan to my case. The System temp has also dropped from 32 to 28 C.
