I tried to update my i7-3930K to an i7-4930K. I'm giving the 3930 to my son for a new build.
After installing it, I had over 25 "unknown devices" in device manager. I tried all new drivers, even a fresh install of Windows7 x64 and nothing help. Then I noticed the "beta" chipset driver on Asus site, so I tried it and the unknown devices cleared up but iRST wouldn't operate and the system became unusable. I finally gave up and reinstalled the 3930. Yes, I have the latest bios installed.
I starting to think Asus knows about problems with this board. 1) They have discontinued it. 2) Why release a "beta" chipset driver?
I'll need to replace this board if I still want Ivybridge-e or maybe I'll just keep what I have and put the 4930 into my son's build.

Great, even the ROG boards are having problems.
This is what you call your mobo being ready for IVY-E?

I have a friend that just completed a build using the P9X79 Pro and a 4820k. He updated bios and installed the non-beta chipset drivers and has about 30-40 unknown devices in dev. manager. Some research shows it looks like a known issue. I'm going to have him install the beta drivers and see what happens.

Hey guys I have a question...

I'm using Asus P9X79 Pro and planned to slap 2x R9 280X in for x16/x16 bandwidth.

Now if I plan to add Xonar Essense STX after... would the GPU bandwidth degrade to x8?

edit:
Ok, my problem is both x1 slot will be covered by the GPU so I had to put the STX PCIE to other PCIE x16

I think your solution is by using the last white PCIe x16 slot for your Xonar.

Thanks kizwan.

So you mean the #4 in the picture? This configuration should not affect the gpu's x16 / x16 right?

Yes, that is correct. It shouldn't affect your x16/x16 setup.
