Good Ram for the E6600? - Page 2

As Nasgul said, the $315 G.Skills will overclock to DDR2 1000 with a 4-4-4-8 @ 2.2v.

To me, it's not worth to spend the extra $$$ on the Dominators.

Also, I don't see an PC2 8800 Dominator on Newegg... it's either PC2 8500 or PC2 8888

I would agree with Chozart...I have the PC-8888 Dominators with an E6600 on water and I can do just as much with my DDR2800 that I can with the Dominators....I only got the Dominators because I wanted to see how far I could push an E6300...It is here that you are going to need all the Speed that you can get...

PS - Get the G'Skills or Get some Corsair DDR2800 C4's...They are both about the same amount of money....$300 vs. $610...Hmmmm

Hope this helps

I have GSkill DDR21000 4445 timing native RAM with my 6600. It's currently OC'd to 1.1 GHZ at 5455 timing. The computer is a screamer. I'm a believer in GSkill.

I was thinkin of getting those sticks Frankenpc but i decided its not worth the money when i could just oc. They do have better timings though. Chozart, with that cpu cooler the Zalman i think it is, what temps are u getting with the E6600? What temps are u getting when the E6600 is overclocked?

The Zalman works fine for me. At 3.51GHz, I hit about 59C - 60C at load.

This cooler is highly dependent on a good airflow in the case. If you have good airflow, it's a good cooler. However, coolers with a more powerful (120mm) fan perform better in cases where airflow is not that good (think Tuniq Tower, the Noctua, Scythe Infinity and such)

hehe, my bad, yes it's PC2-8888 I mean

So a pair of "G.Skill 2GB DDR2 GA PC2-6400 (2x1GB) CAS3 Dual Channel Kit (F2-6400CL3D-2GBGA) (MY-016-GS) " 3-4-3-8 owns the 1111MHz, but only 5-5-5-12, PC2-8888? And at a 120£ lower price (@ overclockers.co.uk)
Sweet .. I might even end up with enough dough in the budget for MachII/VC-LS. Again ... sweet
But I don't see why all the fuzz around the Dominators when even the PC2-8500 arent too impressive on the timings, and I was under the impression that pure MHz was all the Intels really needed. They got a fancy cooling feature, but that about it? Even the Dominator PC2-6400 3-4-3-9 are more (a little) expensive than those G.Skill.
[edit]sorry, my bad ... what I called "Dominator PC2-6400" are not Dominators but 'regular'[/edit]

I am not saying that the DDR2 800 G.Skills own the DDR2 1111 Dominators. I am saying it's not worth spending double the money for not too much increase in bandwidth.

My plan is to hit 426.4fsb and change the multi to 8 so my ram will reach 1066 and my proc will hit 3.4ghz. Will this be possible with the Gskill 6400's? My ram will be divided by 5:6.

Not sure about 1066, but Nasgul is running 1000 on them, which is plenty fast

Personally, I would put on 1:1, get a bit higher FSB, and thus run yuor CPU a bit faster.... and RAM at like DDR2 900. (FSB = 450, multi 8, RAM 1:1 @ DDR2 900). That'll give you 3.6GHz on the CPU, and a good speed on the RAM
