GTX 470 x3 or GTX 480 x2? - Page 2

No one has managed to answer my question yet frown.gif Can anyone please tell me which setup would have more performance? I went out and bought one GTX 480 for $150, and I could buy another one. I just want to know which setup would be better for benchmarking. I don't plan on watercooling with this set up as of yet, so that really isn't an option until i upgrade my CPU and mobo, which I won't do until after Ivy Bridge.

x3 470's are equal to or minutely better than x2 480's. Better for benchmarking... probably the x3 470's out of the box on synthetics.

Thanks you!!! I can't believe I couldn't find that with a google search :/

Do you think running at x16 x8 and x4 would affect the way the third card handles? Cause I think it's kind of gimped frown.gif I wish I knew what bandwidths the cards in the article were.

with 4x might be limiting the 3rd card.. but 8x should be fine.

4x doesn't even bottleneck a 6990 more then 2%.

SLI scales like garbage when you enter 3 cards.

3x 6870s would match/beat 3 470s.

GTX480 SLI destroy all on a single 1920x1080 monitor........only go GTX470 Tri-SLI if you're going to run NV surround

Do you play BF3? If so, what kind of frames are you getting with your surround setup?

480x2 would be better.

If you do get 35%-45% performance with the added third card, as someone poster earlier, i don't see the problem? Adding a third card to a two card setup adds 50% more GPUs; theoretically it would be impossible to exceed 50% performance gains with adding the third card anyways.
