Mech KB advice - mainly QPAD MK-85

First off - already read the excellent mech guide by manyak, and saw lots of reviews/videos on specific kb's and those comparing different switches noise/tactile feel.

Right, then.
I currently have the K-350, which, besides being ergonomic and comfy, is quite rubbish.
I've been contemplating what to do next, and decided it's time to go mechanical.

My main uses are:
1. Typing - I'm currently in the middle of my S.J.D., so I'm writing quite a lot..
2. Gaming - I mostly (95% of the time) game single-player, so I don't have to have the best for gaming .
3. General use (surfing etc.) - this is my main PC.

What's most important to me:
1. Comfort - by far the most important. That extends to the arm-rest, extended typing, etc.
2. Aesthetics - self-explanatory..
3. Backlighting - I do a lot of typing in the dark, so if I'm upgrading my keyboard, might as well tick this off as well. I would prefer having the LED in red/white (to match the case-theme), though I am aware most are blue.

With all this in mind, I've been looking at either the brown or red switches. The blue is also nice, but in all the videos I saw it was really loud, so I imagine after a while it'll drive me crazy.

I've been ogling the MK-85 ever since its release. From what I've seen, it fits all my needs.

I do, however, have a couple of questions to run by you guys:
1. Has anyone got the MK-85 (I'm aware it's the same as the Qumax ones, but I haven't seen an exact one with red LEDs etc), and if so then what's your experience been?
2. What's the deal with QPAD being the clone? does this mean QPAD have gone out of business as well?
3. Where can I get one (MK-85)??? Their site won't load
4. Can you think of other keyboards that would fit the bill?
5. Re the switch choice - what would you recommend for me - red/brown? somethine else?

sorry for the long post,

thx thumb.gif

EDIT: Also, keep in mind I've never used a mechanical keyboard, so if you think for my needs mech is overkill, I would appreciate your opinion (heard the Sidewinder is very good, for example...)

The Ducky Shines have various backlighting colors including red and white and various switch type. But they don't have fancy aesthetics other then the backlighting. You can also get the Razer Blackwidow Ultimate but it only has blue backlighting and two switch types (brown or blue)

thanks guys.

i just got word from QPAD, saying their brown switches will come back in stock early march.

i think i'll go for one, tho i still need to decide which one of them to get - MK-50/80/85.

From what i saw, MK-80 is 85 without the software. and the 50 is without the lighting/software (compared to the 85).
I don't see how i'll be using the software much, so i think it's between the 50 and the 80.
If i go with the 50, there's the Qumax (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823330017&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-RSSDailyDeals-_-na-_-na&AID=10521304&PID=4003003&SID=1wl2nc1665ds3) which is cheaper than the 50 so i'll go for that.
if i go for the 80, i'll have to order it from QPAD, meaning 140 euros.

is there any other difference between the 3 models that i've missed?

I was looking for the same keyboard and I end up getting the

A lot more features than ducky shine and qumax. It improves my typing speed and easy for me to play game in the dark. thumb.gif

thanks for the link, but by the looks of it it's another qumax/xarmor replica
