[Anand] Alienware X51: The Xbox With Teeth - Page 8

Wouldn't a desktop card have much better performance for cost? Also, what's the point of a super thin desktop?

$652.93 better graphics, processor,free dirt 3 game,

1) Your motherboard doesn't have USB3.0 or SATA 6.0Gbps.
2) Your system have only 2GB RAM while the base X51 comes with 4GB.
3) The HD6870 have a TDP of 151W and the i3 is 65W so these two alone can consume +200W under full load, there is a reason why Alieware includes a 330W unit with the GTX555 (Which have a TDP similar to the HD6870) and you want to run the whole PC on a junk PSU that comes with a case?
4) You forgot the DVD-RW.
5) The X51 comes with free shipping, so calculate the shipping cost on Newegg and add it to the price.

So no, you didn't build a better system for cheaper than $699.

I don't get half the replies in this thread anyway. If you cannot play games at 1080p and high setting imo there is no use playing games on a pc. Apart from rts and mmorph games. You can just as well play them on a console.

considering 1080 is not even the most used res by gamers, i would like you to take a seat

I'm a PC gamer, but I'm not blind enough to be unable to realize that when you buy a console, you put the disk into the console and you play without worrying about if the game will run or if the drivers of the graphics card will disable SLI, or w/e. Not to mention that the only advantadge of the PC games, against the console games is that they look better. But better means they cost more, so on one side you have something that costs more and have better looking games, and on the other side you have something cheaper with games that look less good.

That's reality. You can hate on me if you want. People who know me, or who have read some of my posts, know I have a 590 with 4 GB of ram and a 2600K and that I don't own a console.

This gotta be a huge money maker in doing this.

All them parts have warrantys just like alienware....
You think you can send out your x51 and get it back anytime soon. think again.
Warrantys are warrantys most them parts have a lifetime warranty.........

Considering how the PC gaming masterrace always slams the consolegamers; those filthy consoles run at 720p. So if you buy an overpriced Alienware to play games at 720p and medium settings I would suggest, sir, to take that seat yourself. Class dismissed.

are you sarcastic? if it can run battlefield 3 at medium whats the issue here? your first sentence looks like sarcasm.

is there battlefield 3 on console?
is there mmorpgs on console?

whats wrong with 720p?

steams hardware survey says some of the MOST USED resolutions are under 1080, and steam is a GAMING PLATFORM.

what is the issue here? are you angry that normal people that dont want to take the time and turn into PC nerds get a chance to enjoy the same thing as you?

and why is your sub title "console gamer"

seems like you're butthurt thinking you're superior to a console player.

protip: every service your mommy and daddy uses, some people do themselves

Yes, actually.

Not disagreeing with your post, just thought I'd mention that you can play Battlefield 3 on consoles if that's your preferred platform.

Where to start...

1. Yes it is and it actually has way less issues than the PC version.
2. No, apart from a very few. Didn't I post that already in my previous reply? Read before you try and give a comeback please. Saves you looking quite uneducated.
3. There is nothing wrong with 720p. That is the point. So all the console-hating is pretty much bolony. Just as bolony as comparing a 700 dollar PC with a console in the first place.
4. I bet it is, people running old rigs and older monitors that aren't 1080p.
5. The issue is that a gaming pc and a console aren't the same thing, so trying to compare them like the article does is plain crazy. And that buying a new Alienware that can only play games at 720p on medium settings is crazy. You buy something expensive that already is equal to old hardware. It makes no sense whatsoever. It is misleading to customers who expect to buy an Alienware. What they think is the pinnacle of PC gaming. And what they get is consolegaming for double or triple the price of a console and 10x the hassle.
6. Because I a mostly ....wait for it....am a consolegamer. Who next to that also plays some games on PC.

About me being butthurt; the general consensus on this forum is that PC gaming is above anything else. If you hold that thought then this Alienware PC makes no sense whatsoever. Because gamingwise it brings nothing more to the table than a console. I play both platforms and most replies towards consoles are uninformed and plain stupid.

protip: I am a grown man with a family, a good job, that built a PC and also plays games on a console. So educate yourself before making all these assumptions that all are 100% wrong.
