I have not gamed on this TV, but I have gamed on a Samsung HDTV (LN46B750) that had the 120Hz/240Hz capability. Personally, I thought it was slightly laggy for gaming, but movies (especially blu-ray) looked great on my particular model. Off-angle viewing did suffer somewhat, but that is pretty common with LCDs.
You will have to weigh these factors carefully:
Gaming vs. normal viewing and movies
Response time of the panel and associated input lag
Viewing distance and how it impacts the three uses that you listed
Type of panel: Not sure if this is common with a Sony, but you can have panels of varying quality produced at different factories during a production run for a particular model. Online, they refer to this a the "panel lottery". I know Samsung is/or was bad about this.
