Can anyone help- Memory issue

Thread Starter
Hello everyone,

I run my cpu @4Ghz, at a 1.45V,

I had 8GB corsair vengeance RAM installed at 1600Mhz, when I installed another 8GB, I get blue screen. However when I lower the memory speed down to 1333mhz I do not get bluescreen.

Does anyone know what the problem is

All help is much appreciated

not sure mate, I have 16GB of corsair vengeance and I'm running them at 1600mhz with voltages on auto. Check your voltage setting and see if that helps. Weird one.

Another thing - try to move the memory into other slots and see what happens.

cheers for the advice,

I think my RAM voltages are on normal. I will try moving them round

Corsair advises that their speed and latency ratings are for the specific DIMM or RAM kit.

If you add another DIMM or RAM kit - as you did, the two RAM kits are NOT guaranteed to run at the advertised frequency and latencies of one DIMM or RAM kit. In order for the RAM kit to be guaranteed to run at the advertised frequency and latencies you would need to have bought a single 16 GB. RAM kit, not 2x 8 GB. RAM kits.

You might be able to run the mixed RAM at a higher frequency by upping the voltage to 1.65v and/or slowing the latencies - but there is no guarantee. Corsair has suggested this to other customers on their forums, so it's plenty safe to try. I'd also run Memtest86+ on each DIMM individually and all DIMMs combined to be sure there isn't a bad DIMM.

FYI - Some mobo BIOS will not allow OC'ing the RAM when all of the DIMM slots are occupied. You could check this with your mobo maker as it varies by mobo model and BIOS version.

To compensate for the increase in DIMM count you may need to increase the voltage to the CPU-NB/integrated memory controller which experiences higher load with 4 DIMMs vs 2.  That may solve your issue and allow for fine 1600Mhz operation.  I needed to move mine past the stock 1.15V to about 1.225V before stability tests passed when I added my second kit of G.Skill ECOs and set them to 1600Mhz operation.
