But on running prime95 my temps shot up to 95, so I will rethink after work tomorrow.

what motherboard and ram are you running? e.g. fill out out your rig specs also check out the link I posted earlier.

offset allow the preset chip voltage be the baseline votls and then you add volts from there . e.g. chip volts at 1.25 volts at stock ... by setting on offset you assume the 1.25 is already part of the volts and increase by 0.050 volts I'm really only familair with my mobo's bios ... hence why I was asking what your specs where... the url I posted earlier. shows settings for oczing my mobo - could be a start for you... at the bottom, it talks about offset settings my chip was a D0 stepping so I'm not sure how well your C0 will clock (also I'm on water) ..

Your cooler might not be up for the challenge. What are ure ambient temperatures btw? makes quite a difference about the cooling performance tongue.gif. Perhaps just get it to around 3.4 and leave it.

These are my stats, from the first post,

Intel I7 920
Asus Sabertooth
Corsair DDR3 1600 24Gb (yes I know its a lot, but it was only £7 more than 12Gb, so why not)
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2 CPU Cooler
Xclio Blackhawk Black Full Tower
Tagan BZ1100 PSU

I just ran prime 95 on the system with no overclocking at all and it reached 72, I guess I need a better fan, any suggestions?

Hey

You need a better cooler for sure and I can suggest Thermalright HR-02 Macho, which is a really good cooler that also is unexpensive - $39.95 here:

http://www.thermalright.com/products/?act=data&id=178&cat_id=27

I too own a i7 920 C/0 stepping, and I have run 4.2 GHz since I bought it. I need to set Vcore to 1.415V or something like that to get it stable at that overclock, but I have managed to get to 4.4 GHz, but it required 1.5+ and it was not worth it.

If your temperatures get too high, try to disable Hyperthreading - you will not notice much difference when gaming and daily browsing and temperatures should drop quite a bit.

try bumping to 3.5ghz and 1.25 v core also don't use slow mode since you're not doing high OC.

i7 920 is using 4.8GTS/4800MT's so change it here's more info

Also, don't forget to enable turbo to bump the multiplier to x22 like this

With raising the BCLK, the QPI link has increased though, my current options with BLCK 175, 3500mhz ( cpu ratio 20, dram @ 1403mhz) and 1.25 v core are:-
Auto
Slow Mode
6316 MT / s
7718 MT / s
8421 MT / s

Also, I cannot see turbomode Tech option if I change anything from Auto in bios
