CRTs like the FW900 are finicky. You have to spend time to adjust and calibrate the colors in order to get the most out of them.

If you want an LCD recommendation for the same money I would go with the Samsung S23A700D, which can be had at tiger direct for $299. It has no anti-glare coating, 120hz refresh, 2ms response time, whites look pure and colors pop. Oh and it does 3d too and once you get the 3d settings dialed in correctly games like Mafia II are outrageous! All of those things the Dell panel can not do and it costs the same money...so YES the Dell panels are over rated and pretty much suck.

You somehow think that I am completely biased towards CRTs...I am not, but I will give credit where credit is due. I guarantee if you had a FW900 to play with it would blow you away. Stop being so closed minded, it makes you look ignorant.

I never said a negative or positive thing about Dell. In fact I can safely say that I feel that the FW900 is the best CRT ever made. I only asked for you to make a recommendation to which LCD would be better than the U2412M at similar price point, which in this post you did. What I don't appreciate is name calling. I mean, in which post that I made make you feel I was closed minded or ignorant? I never said LCDs where better than CRTs. I never expressed any favoritism towards anything. A few more post in this forum will make you realize how important it is to be respectful to others in a community where we all share the same interest.

I've got a Dell monitor, and my whites look quite pure. I think you might have been doing it wrong. As my Dell monitor is by far one of the nicer monitors I have ever owned. And yes, I've owned 3 of those FW900's before. Too bulky, power hungry, and hot.

I rave about CRTs for "Gaming" due to their superior motion, color & black levels. I prefer LCDs for web surfing and work productivity...have you not seen my setup? Its got some of everything!

And if you dell has the same AG coating that the U2410 does than your whites look egshell yellow. Your so used to your dell that you dont notice it, but if you put it next to the sammy you would see it right away.

I don't actually own one of those Dell monitors. Just went off of what others where saying on Slick deals. The only Ultra Sharp I own is a 17" model from 2004. It doesn't see much love.

No you were trying to bate me into ranting and raving about the fw900. You and I both know what you were trying to do so please don't play coy. You seemed pretty sure that I had no LCD in mind that could compete and you just wanted to bait me into a CRT rant...You and I both know that was your intention. But what you didn't count on was the fact that I actually know what Im talking about and have owned a ton of monitors and know what sucks and what doesnt.

Haha!

Had to use some stuff like that when we were helping out some stray dogs. It was the only way we could get them to eat.

But, I have effectively pulled this off topic. So i'll stop. thumb.gif
