Darn! Maybe it's not too late to switch, (pretty sure it isn't). I need to go back right now and check the specs to see if carriers eSATA and what the USB count is.

Umm..I'd get an m4a89GTD pro..and a 960T Zosma..and forego the fx 8150..
or..maybe an m4n98TD EVO..and a 960T ..not positive about the FX support on that one..but probably...
I can corfirm m4a89gtd pro supports fx cpus,,if one was was inclined to purchase one in the future
::cough:: later this year ::cough::
Of notable mention is the CHV and Sabertooth..both well over $150

The Zosma is better for day to day stuff..and games just fine.
I like Zosma tongue.gif
This is my opinion

Oh, OK! I spent hours looking at all the boards everyone recomended and I got mixed up for a moment. That ASUS was the 'other' one I was looking at but it didn't have the eSATA, (lots of USB ports though).

Considering that the HP Board I have now was able to pull out 4.020GHz I think that ASRock should be able to get there even easier... I Hope. But I never saw that 965BE get clocked any higher than 4.2 and I really don't think I have the experience to know how to squeeze that out of it.

So if I can get 4.1 that'll be 'cake' and when the Piledriver comes out IF it can out perform the i7's, (which you guy's pretty much have me believing it won't), I'll buy the appropiate board for that.

Do you really think that 965 will have any troublemaking it to 4.1GHz with that ASRock, narmour? If you do, I'm going to have to change this order real quick but I don't want to if you think the 965 will be ok.

I noticed it was easier to push my 965 on a Sabertooth...

Thanks Smuckley, that is very definitely the highest I have ever seen on the 965! But aside from all the other serious hardware, that board runs into the $190.'s and that's way out of the park.
Thanks though, I now know a 965 can go better than 4.4GHz!

Thanks, unfortuanately I just got the Ship info from Amazon, they already have on the truck/plane/ship whatever. Hell, that was less than3 hours from the time I ordered it. But I can send it back easy enough. My trouble seems to be that I don't see where you get the Phase rating/info.

I don't see it in the specs of that ASUS narmour said was better for OC'ing. Where do you find or see that information? And BTW, nothing comes up when I typed "Zosma" or "m4a89GTD pro". Can you clear that up for me? I'd like to look at them.
Thanks

I'm learning to count the 'chokes' but in that sabertooth you mentioned, I only see 5 chokes. I need to read some more because that's the boartd that you said had an 8+1 Phasing.

CPU VRM is hidden under the heatsink. Chokes that are near the RAM is for RAM only. SABERTOOTH 990FX has 8+2 configuration, meaning 8 phases for the CPU and 2 phases for the RAM.

Thank you Trumpet-205!

I may be sending the board I just ordered back but I need to find out how critical a part does that Phase spec play. I mean, I was told that the board I ordered, (ASRock MB-970EX4), has a 4+1 Phase and I don't yet know what my present board's Phase specs are but I certainly don't want one that is less than my present board, (a Stock HP Foxconn).

Maybe you can tell me what the critical info is on my present board that I can use to run down the Phase info. This is the board's info from the Hardware Diagnostics test sheet:
System Board
Chipset AMD RS780/RS880
Southbridge AMD SB700/SB710/SB750
Base Board
Manufacturer FOXCONN
Product ALOE
BIOS
Vendor American Megatrends Inc.
Release Date 08/03/2009
BIOS Version String 5.00
ROM Size 1.00 MB

So I need to know how critical a part the Phase spec play in overclocking the CPU, and what my present board's Phase specs are. And then lastly, the ASUS board that has the 6+1 Phase, (M5A97), doesn't have an eSATA option and I have a external HD that can use eSATA but doesn't have 3.0 USB options.

So I need to find out if there's such a device that will allow me to get eSATA connectivity from my HD to the board by maybe using one of the PCI slots the way they can do with USB 3.0 connections now.

If you happen to know the answer to some or all 3 of those questions that'd be great!
