How much watts do i need?

Thread Starter
My build is gonna be composed of 2 6950's in crossfire which i will unlock to 6970's and overclock and a 2500k which i will overclock to 4.5ghz.

The power supply i currently have in mind is 850watts

650W is okay, since it's just an i5-2500k at 4.5 GHz, which is just something close to 100W draw at full load. Of course it depends on the voltage though, but it's certainly a lot less than many other processors.

750W is also a reasonable option, especially since a lot of 650W units don't come with four PCIe power connectors. 850W is way overkill.

HX850 is a great unit but not particularly appealing at that price unless the 7 year Corsair warranty means a whole lot to you. For reference, the XFX XXX 750W is a comparably high-end modular unit, for $120 shipped before $30 rebate:

You could get away with 650w, 750w would be the sweet spot with plenty of headroom

650W minimum. 750W is the sweet spot if you want to take the cards further.

Cheers.
