GRX 580 squeal/whine

Thread Starter
I noticed today that my EVGA 580 squeals/whines when i subject it to a game with a high framerate. For instance, I had to re-install the Witcher 2 so the settings got moved to low with vsync off for some reason; with the fan profile I use for just desktop use, I could hear a distinct whining the changed frequency (ascending) as more frames got added. I recorded a clip on my phone to let you guys listen to, though it is a bit hard to hear over the psu fan (the other part of my pc that drives me nuts mad.gif ). You start hearing it a few seconds in and then can hear the oscillations as I start up the game (around 600 fps in the developer/publisher credit graphics) and really hear the high pitch whine at the main menu where the fps is about 2000. I think I recorded to where I start a tutorial and the whine can still be faintly heard at 120ish fps. Now, is this something I should be worried about and is there a chance it could be responsible for some non-fps stuttering issues I've been having in games? Also, this is a refurbished (I think) warranty replacement for the new card I had which was having artifacting issues.

(I think I haven't noticed it till now because with vsync it's barely audible)

as said by many users that it is normal, i recently experienced the same whine after my cat slept my cup of water "near" my computer, it got a few splashes on the table where my PC is and after 2 hours of playing, it was unbearable annoying sound that came from my PC, i turned it off right away, opened the side panel and inspected the sound. it was coming from the fan that is at the bottom of my case, i believe the humidity caused it. so i sprayed the fan with my compressed air can that i usually clean my PC with and afterwards the noise is gone. it might be the caps as said in the previous comment but it might also be humidity in your room?

Cap whine.

Some cards are noisy compared to other cards. Even power supplies have the same thing. It's luck of the draw to get a quiet card. It does not affect performance or is it a sign of the unit that's about to fail.
