Thread Starter
I have a powercolor 6870x2 2gb and a sapphire 6870 1gb crossfired right now

I was wondering if it would improve if i upgraded to 2 asus 6950 dc2 2gb cards

compare what fps you get in the games they do with these reviews, but they might be a little higher now due to driver updates.

They all seem to use driver version 10.11 preview drivers when they did it so it should be higher in performance, but why dont you go with a 7970/7950 if you are going to spend close to $400 on video cards. unless your using what you would get from your current cards with rest in straight up cash.

One major consideration is your resolution.

1)  If it is larger than 1920x1200, then I would think the 2GB VRAM of the HD6950 will come in quite useful and I suggest the 'upgrade'.

2)  If it is 1920x1200 or less, then the performance of HD6950 2GB CF and HD6870 1Gb Tri-fire are more or less the same.

Basically, stock clock HD6950 2GB CF is about 5-10% faster than overclocked HD6870 CF. See the 3 references below.

So, when it comes to overclocking the HD6950 pair vs adding a third HD6870, I suppose their performance gain will probably about the same, with the edge to the HD6870 CF.

However, depending on the PCIE slot layout of your motherboard, the HD6950 2GB CF just might give better thermal and acoustic numbers.  If so, this might be a sidegrade in the better sense of temperature and noise.
