just WOW at some of your Crysis 1 photos... makes me look outside my window and back to my screen to make sure that I am still IRL...

But overall, even with the latest technology, in the video below... Crysis 1 simply makes up for the high resolution textures...
This picture here... there is simply no need for tessellation as it "looks great"... and not everyone walks up to a brick wall to see that everyone of them are popping out... cool feature overall and can imagine the processing power required...

How many patches did Crytec come out with after crysis was released? Could maybe have some determining factor with that.

Unless you use FXAA injector with added saturation bf3 colors are horrible!
I've also noticed bf3 has very little foliage whatsoever compared to crysis so that might have been some time constraints onto how much time they spent working on the foliage in bf3.

I'd love to see how kepler will perform with crysis... Looking at getting a good kepler card and loading up crysis forsure!

Oh no, do play the SP. There is a ALOT more eyecandy in the SP compared to MP.

No, that's tesselation.
Bump mapping relates to how light affects textured surfaces, in which case a person walking near it will notice it's flat, but it looks bumpy from afar.
With tesselation, it looks flat from afar, but once you get near it, you notice it's bumpy.

A good example of bump mapping is shooting a wall near a light source in FEAR. You see shadows as if there is a geometric hole in the wall, but once you get near, you see it's a bump-mapped texture.

Ye. Looking at parallax mapping, it's based on bump mapping, so I'm not completely off, bump mapping might just be the popular word for it (well, it's the most recent I've heard about this effect). Anyway, not tessellation.

Nope, Chris is right on this one, it's POM (parallax occlusion mapping).

Also tessellation is not a texture effect, it adds actual polygons to an object.
POM uses a displacement map to add a 3D effect to a flat texture. It will look bumpy both from afar and close up.
Tessellation splits all the polygons (triangles) of an object into smaller polygons, allowing more detail (a ball is round instead of having x amount of flat sides).

If I give you 2 screenshots of C2 - one wall from afar with tesselated surface, and one wall from afar with just plain texture, you won't be able to tell the difference.
Once you get close-up screenshots, you will be.
