Metro 2033 when talking about stock graphics...

Even vanilla Crysis looks a lot better than BF3. When I start playing BF3 after hearing it has amazing graphics. I was disappointed that it doesn't look great as I thought. Sometimes I kept checking it I'm really playing on ultra. I can see the effects of switching to consoles during development. I think Crysis 2 with DX11 patch looks better and even Metro 2033(indoor environment) looks better than BF3. What do you expect from a multiplayer game?

Mods are typically free, so I don't see how analogies of comparing objects of $100's difference apply to modded crysis vs. bf3...Modding Crysis is like being asked to have optional, free upgrades applied to some product you bought. If you wanted the best experience out of that product, why would you refuse free upgrades? Assuming of course that these free upgrades came with no strings attached or anything, you know.

The whole mods vs. no mods thing is stupid. We're comparing each game at its best, yea?

Well, Crytek actually HOSTS the mods on their own site for EVERYONE to use - they come with easy to use installers (most of the time). They have a forum DEDICATED to making mods, where actual devs post answers to the harder questions, and give pointers to modders (sometimes). They release mod tools, MASSIVE amounts of documentation for said mod tools, and then ASK the community what they want more detail in. They WANT you to mod their game - its an incredibly clear message. Crysis 1 files (.pak) are REALLY just .rar files, meaning ANYONE can open them. Inside the textures are just .dds files which anyone with Photoshop or GIMP can open. The scripts for weapons are basically .txt files which, again, anyone can edit.

MEANWHILE over at BF3, they dont release mod tools, make everything encrypted as hell, have a super-locked down console and then say "the mod tools would be too complicated for you". Dice COULD release mod tools and allow for the community to make the game better looking - however, they havent by their own choice. There is ACTUALLY an interview with Cevat Yerli (Crytek CEO / founder), where he literally says "hopefully we will one day release Quad-resolution textures or something". Even HE wanted the graphics to be better.

This is like the argument over mac vs. PC market share. A lot of people say "its not fair to compare the market share, as OSX only goes on macs". I say its their own doing, as their EULA specifically says "you cannot install this on anything BUT a mac".

Basically, compare the games at their BEST. For Crysis, thats with HD texture mods, .CFG tweaks, Custom ToDs and skins. For BF3, its exactly how the Dev's shipped it.

Also C1 is over 4 years old now, and you're comparing it to a game thats not even 6 months old. You might as well give C1 a bonus, as DX11 didnt even exist back then and the MAX Vram available was 768mb, while BF3 runs DX11 and THEN runs out of my 1.2gb of Vram.

/edit

As for the games, Metro wins for indoors and indoor lighting, Crysis wins for outdoors and outdoor lighting (and modding), BF3 wins at effect usage (jn campaign at least).

I love how some of you can't even get out from underneath mother EA's wing long enough. Oh boo hoo, its not fair that Crysis is still a better looking game! frown.gif

Crysis is almost FIVE years older than BF3. It was released in 2007, demo in 2006. Guess what? It's 2012 now. And its STILL holding its own against your precious BF3. And a lot of us feel its still the better looking game.

Sorry, but I think you're all mad over something quite silly honestly. Crysis is quite an old game....but yet its STILL one of the best (in my opinion THE best) looking game out there.

Stock vs. Stock, Crysis looks better. BF3 only looks better where they want you to look, Crysis looks better throughout the ENTIRE island.

Modded Crysis vs. BF3....uh durr.

Funny. smile.gif Like little boys holding to their toys..
Ok, I won't be taking Crysis from you, I promise. But at some point you'll have to let go! Remember that.

Somebody there said stock Crysis is better than BF3? Ok, let it be so, if you're so vigurously defending it, that any logic, reason, screenshot or video is being ignored.
Chill down. Crysis is the best. thumb.gif

Darn right! wink.gif , just kidding. All jokes aside, i love these kind of discussions but man when you get some trolls in here bashing one or both sides it just turns into a flamed debate. Opinions are opinions and no one is right or wrong, except me, im always right! thumb.gif

I'm glad we got the sexual tension out of this thread.

Now we can get back to the Crysis 1 Graphics Appreciation Thread of 2012.

I have to point that it is only fair to compare vanilla or similarly customized versions of both. Since you compare heavily modded C1 and stock BF3, your conclusions are scientifically meaningless.
Although I do agree that I still preffer the gritty realism of C1 compared to the plastic toy factory that is C2.
But seriously, play through BF3, especially the level on the carrier. There is no equally realistic game currently in existance.

I showed my dad the level on the carrier he never plays games or knows anything about them, and he wanted to play it.
