Hi, im currently getting a list ready to upgrade my current setup, as you can see the first rig is what i have and the 2nd is my to buy list.
im stuck trying to pick a good board for OCing the 960T. i want to try 4ghz+ with 4cores, or if i can unlock it ill try 3.5ghz+.
trying to pick a board that can handle it and stay cool in the case i getting, and AM3+ compatible with piledrivers in the future.
my current choices are:

That Asus 880g will do nicely.

It's 8+1 phase, supports 140w cpu, and has some 3.0 usb

However the m5a97 would be a great choice as well

It's 4+2 phase, also supports 140w cpu, is fully heatsinked on the vrm and mosfets, has protection for that, as well as an am3+ socket cpu (giving room for upgrading) Has nice UEFI bios, and will most likely be supported (by asus software updates, upcoming bios updates ect) for a bit longer then the 880 chipset.

My choice would be the m5a97.

thanks for the input.
that 880g looks like a really sturdy board in terms of OCing, but its older.
The m5a97 looked like it would be futureproof for a year or 2 atleast,

i just wanted to make sure the m5a97 wasnt heavily gimped as opposed to its EVO version though.
i would also put the board you have on the list since my current asrock has lasted me about 3years now with no problems, but from what i read on some reviews it didnt seem like the right choice what i wanted to do with it.

The ASUS is a good option for
Overclock and future iupgrade to BD if you want.

Another option would be a Gigabyte 890FXA-UD3, with good price and solid features for overclock.

that ones a little outta my price range of 100 (-+20%). @ $154

EDIT:
ill most likely go with the m5a97. unless theres other suggestions?

also wanted to ask if the Hyper 212+ can be mounted sideways? facing the rear of the case.
since that isnt always optional with amd latches, and ive never installed the board mounts it comes with before.

EDIT: - nvm i checked the link in ur sig, and i can mount either way. ty for the link, lol.

Go with the hyper 212 evo, it's just like the + except it's much flatter on the bottom with continuous direct contact heatpipes. and it can be mounted the the fans facing up and down, or to face front of the case and one facing the rear exhaust.

i dont mean to bump, but i was able to shift some figures around and in exchange for giving up my current board and case ill be able to build the revised list with a 2500k, i felt it was more worth it then the 960t in terms of bang. hope it works out since itle be my first intel machine.
