dlink gaming router issues

so i purchased a dlink gaming router a while ago, and a short while after owning it have had nothing but connection issue.

the only things i have done was i renamed the ssid, and i tried switching it over to 5ghz bandwidth but for some reason my computer could not find the router. Anyways my current issue is that when ever im connected to it will work for like 2 or 3 days after i reset it but after those 2 or 3 days every time i connect the internet is gone and i get some sort of dns issue. when i do trouble shoot it tells me theres an issue with the router location, ive checked it before i do the reset and the router has internet going though it.

the router is a dgl-4500

Have you tried updating the routers firmware?

i was thinking about that but i dont know how easy or hard that is i dont want to do it wrong and fry my new router.

You should not have to worry about upgrading your firmware if it is officially supported by D-link. Their newest firmware seems to be 1.23NA you can check yours by loging onto your router and right under General your firmware should be.

After a quick look on the internet it seems like you are not the only one with these similar issues and the firmware may not fix anything but its worth a try. If after the update nothing changes i would go to the D-link forums and post your issue, they are much more experianced with their line of routers.

I wouldn't sweat about flashing the firmware. Usually under 30 days you'll be able to return it or get warranty if the flashing goes bad.

Now for flashing firmware you can do it by this method:

Login into this address: http://192.168.1.1
Username: admin
Password: blank

Under Tools > Firmware you can select the firmware file off your computer and upload it.
From there just wait a few minutes and it should work.

Just make sure your doing the firmware flash on a Ethernet connection to be safe.

As for that it can be that the firmware is just poorly designed and doesn't work very well (Have a ASUS RT-N13 and flashed it with DD-WRT since it could not hold a connection for more than a couple minutes
on default settings)
The problem can also be the Router is getting to hot, and might need some additional cooling.

As for the 5GHZ does your Wireless Adapter support it since if it doesn't you won't be able to take advantage of the 5GHZ capabilities.
