Is the Corsair H80 good enough for the Intel 3930K CPU?

I was seriously considering a real WC setup, Swiftech MCP35x pump + MCP35x-Res reservoir, Black Ice SR1 120 radiator and EK Supreme HF/XSPC RayStorm Copper water-block. Problem is I'm new to WC, and rather make all the mistakes with tubing, bleeding incorrectly, potential leaks, the numerous choices for fluid (distilled water, additives, anti-freeeze, Silver coil, etc.), I'm thinking the Corsair H80 may be an easy route for me, which puts me between air cooling and a real WC setup.

I also read on the RRR site about EK copper blocks caking up with black oxidization after a matter of months, and having to use Hydrochloric acid to get rid of it, then I began to think I'm best off with a simple ready-to-go kit - if it fails then it's easy to remove and replace. I looked at the Antec Kuhler 920 and Corsair H80 kit, then I read about leaking problems and pump failure with the Corsair kit, but still, it's a very popular option. I could get my build up and running faster, then spend the extra time on cable management.

Is the Corsair H80 good enough for the 3930K CPU? I'm thinking a mild OC, maybe to 4.2 GHz and no more. FYI, my board is an Asus P9X79 Deluxe.

Thanks.

4.2GHz 3930k with a H80?

Yep, you'd get 4.5Ghz no problem also if you cared to push further.

For now, 4.2 GHz would do me. As I was saying, I did consider a real WC setup using the parts I suggested, but for simplicity and ease of maintenance (i.e. almost none), I'm looking at the H80 as a half-way step between high-end air cooling and a real WC setup. Thanks.

Does anyone know if the H80 requires a different backplate or mounting bracket to work on LGA2011?

Not sure if that's a revision though. I bought my H80 about 7 months ago.

I'm not sure if it did release with or without, or if the current one avail is just a revision. Perhaps give Corsair a call/Support ticket querying.

From what i can see tho the only ones that received a revised mounting option was the H40, H50, H70

Get the h100. It is slightly expensive, $119 compared to $109 h80 but it has a dual rad which will provide better cooling and if you make it push/pull with 2 extra fans then you got yourself a very nice zero maintenance water cooler. Also, it does come with various mounting kits so, mounting on a lga 2011 socket won't be a problem and i can confirm that as i have a 3930k and a corsair h100 and it works like a charm. biggrin.gif The leaking problems were in earlier versions but corsair corrected that.
