How much more painless do you people want this process to be? And you really think Origin is "8 years behind the time" even though it accomplishes the majority of the essential functions as Steam does? No one is stupid enough to flat out COPY Steam and hope to avoid a lawsuit. Since it's so simple, why don't you create a Steam clone and pitch it to EA as an Origin replacement? Good lord. The ignorance in this thread is never ending. I am a Steam fanboy, and own 300+ games on there....but the nonsensical Origin hate on OCN is embarrassing at times. rolleyes.gif

I concur to some extent. The benefit that some fail to see is how competition works towards us the consumers with regards to the pricing. I mean EA came out releasing their own titles at great prices along with getting other titles on board from the get-go. EA wanted to leverage their hot title such as BF3 and later ME3 with origin to gain more market share in distribution and est a community with origin. No doubt origin needs a lot of work, but I believe the least they could have implement similar features like steam given that they could have use steam as prime example, not in refinement at this juncture, but feature-wise. In any case, Origin has gained traction with the community to the some extent based from that report a week ago. At the same time, EA really needs to start improving Origin.

idd, i like origin, the interface is really cool and simple it works fine and i think it loads faster than steam. the only problem that i found was just having 1 friend on it tongue.gif since it's the only one that i know that plays BF with me. biggrin.gif

Since everyone is talking about the Origin and Steam thingy again let me add my 2 cent. It is really not that people hate origin but it is more of the fact that EA doesn't release games for Origin and Steam. If they did it would be a win for everyone because people mostly would like to have all of their games in one place/service and that probably would be Steam.

And you expect Valve to put games up on Origin in return? It's not going to happen.

"While supplies last" -- they're DIGITAL games. They can generate trillions of keys if they wanted to.

This is just EA being EA, a.k.a. Activision Jr.

The developers or publishers chose to go thru valve so i am thinking that would be up to them if they wanted to go thru valve or not and Valve has used EA in the past to publish games so you never know.

No its more like EA uses games as leverage to cram a service that barely works and fails to even allow users to play the game sometimes. Then not giving a goddamn into fixing these problems whilst continuing to force us to use it.

Yes, they could. However, they're not going to do that. They're a business, it's a promotion designed to get people who otherwise wouldn't have played BF3 to play BF3 in hopes of them buying expansions. Same reason people who already have BF3 can't gift the copy they would have gotten had they not had it.

You're whining about them doing something that is perfectly logical if you look at it from any perspective other than the gimmie gimmie generation. And something that you'd do if you were in their position.

I don't really see what's so bad about this - it's not like EA had to offer anything in the first place...and for what it's worth, anyone who pre-ordered within the 3-4 days the offer was active is confirmed to be receiving their free copy of BF3 anyways. Companies can cancel any promotion at anytime, so it's not like this is really any big news - but since it has to do with BIG BAD EA, it's like 1000x a bigger deal than it actually is. rolleyes.gif

I often wonder how people have become some complacent about the shady tactics that companies use.
