Furthermore, Source is out of date. That's what I'm gonig to go with until it improves, because if it can be better utilized and Valve simply hasn't done so, then that makes Valve even more lazy and profit-oriented, so your defense of them is that much more untenable. $50 is what one should charge for a game that utilizes entirely new environments and a new or significantly improved engine. $50 is what Valve charges for a game using previously-used technology, but their fanboys love it blindly so they don't get called out nearly as much as they should. You can get all bent out of shape about what I said, but I spoke the truth. I never said I didn't like many of their games, nor did I make any comment about storylines so your going into that was pointless; though, if you want to know how I feel I would be more than happy to provide you with the overview.

I'm not sure what you are talking about here. In my eyes the only game that wasn't worth $50 was L4D2.

I'm sorry, but replace Valve with Activision and your statement goes for them even better, considering that they charge $60 for a game on top of $15 for DLC or another $60 for their "Elite" package and they sell millions that's essentially the same style of game with just map layout changes as previous games. You can purchase all of the games separately out of the Orange Box on Steam. Sure there's no option like that on console, but you're missing the picture there. There's what, roughly 30 hours of gameplay in HL2, 6 in EP1, 8 in EP2, 5 in Portal, and who knows how many you'll put into TF2. That's 49 hours alone you can put into just the single player games. That's more than what you get for some of the full priced stand-alone games. And it's just $20 now. Usually if you wait a few months, Valve will cut the price of the game, where all of the original Call of Duty games are $20 and Black Ops is still $40.

Portal 2 roughly sold 675,000 within 24 hours, while MW3 sold 6.5 million in the same timeframe. Now who's rolling in the profits? You said that $50 don't justify the price unless it's "utilizes entirely new environments and a new or significantly improved engine." Did you look at Portal 2? It's vastly different than the previous game and has some of the largest environments and props I've ever seen that engine produce. Not to mention that it included a completely separate co-op missions that extended the game past what the single player offered. I've seen games that had a whole lot less and yet sold for the $60 price.

Visually, the engine is behind current ones. I know that, but yet as long as the game plays well and has a great storyline, even though it visually may not look the best, I'd take it over anything. That's MY opinion on how I judge whether or not I'm going to purchase a game. The whole reason why I went into storyline, is because storyline relates to the length of the game. If it has a short storyline, the game is naturally going to be short. Simple as that.

I'm all for your opinion but as much as you tore mine apart, I can tear apart yours too, sorry to say. My guess is that you're going to say that "you never mentioned anything about Activision" but I'm not pulling these out of my arse either. You're just looking at a tiny fraction of what Valve covers in the gaming industry. There are a whole lot worse companies out there.

Anything else I'm missing? Please, let me know if there's anything else.

I read the title as "Valve making sure gamers are 'baked' before announcement, says Gabe"

I guess being a stoner does affect my perception.

Your best argument is to throw Activision under the bus? Yeah, you tore my points to shreds! I never made mention of any other company. You keep bringing up strawman arguments that have no bearing on what I said. Just because other makers/developers/whatever do it doesn't mean Valve should be allowed to without taking heat. With the praise that gets heaped on them you would think they'd be perfect, but they are not. You have yet to show how anything I've said is untrue. Also, if you're taking that long to beat the HL2 episodes then you are ridiculously slow, so you can't use that as a point either. It takes a couple hours tops.

Maybe they should make something new for a change. They're starting to remind me of EA Games.

Valve head Gabe Newell has responded to growing demand for Half-Life 3 information, claiming Valve's now aiming to have its games more "baked" before announcing them.
Speaking to Penny-Arcade following a fan campaign for information on the next Half-Life, Newell admitted Valve's "acutely aware of how much we annoy our fans" with lengthy dev times.
He explained: "It's pretty frustrating to us when we put them into that situation. We try to go as fast as we can and we try to pick the things that we think are going to be most valuable to our customers".
He added: "we recognize that it's been a long time whereas we have so many games that people really love - Counterstrike, Half Life, Portal, Left 4 Dead, not a whole lot of Ricochet enthusiasts out there, and at the same time we want to be making sure that those games and those stories and those characters are moving forward while also making sure that we don't just get into terminal sequelitis."

Really though, all valve needs to say right now is "yes, we're working on Ep 3 - it will come - we dont know when". Just at least confirm that you're doing something.
